He used to enjoy being beneath the sun. Its warmth enveloped him in a sweet embrace, and golden rays of sunlight helped ignite the fire within him on the battlefield. But now—ever since he transformed into a demon, he found a profound connection with the moon. His once sun-kissed skin now bore the ethereal pallor of the moonlight.
Somehow, with the sun nowhere in sight, everything felt alright. Looking at the moon has become a source of solace for [Y/n] in his journey. A part inside of him, the part that embraced the sun in return, was slowly but surely withering away. It's dying like a song with no one left to sing it.
Akira guffawed beside him, a thin expression on his face. He groaned, "I know I said I gave you guys one night, but it's really fine if you stay another day or two. My wife doesn't seem to mind."
"It's fine, really. We have somewhere to go. We wouldn't want to impose on your generous hospitality, Akira," [Y/n] rejected with a carefree smile on his face.
The sun had just set, and so [Y/n] and Muzan immediately got ready to leave Akira's house. They had somewhere to be after all, as they had discussed prior. A village north where the physician had stayed, a place he supposedly visited before having the idea to make the antidote.
Maybe it's a dead end, or maybe it's a new path. At the least, it's worth investigating. Clues of the blue spider lily were scarce, and [Y/n] could feel how desperation was growing inside Muzan.
"Are you sure? I know you and your friend inside are running from some pesky people, but going at night's quite dangerous."
Y/n] couldn't help but laugh, "Why so? Running into me is much more dangerous for whoever you're speaking of."
Akira huffed, "Bandits have been roaming around crazy these days. Don't come running to me when you two get robbed of everything."
"I'm sure I can take care of myself," [Y/n] said with a smirk. "Besides, I'm not alone. And we both have something that they don't have." With that, [Y/n] turned around and walked back inside the house, calling out to Muzan.
"You got everything ready?"
"Yes. We can leave now," Muzan answered, having finished putting his items back inside his bag.
"Well, thanks for everything, Akira. Best wishes to you and your family."
He laughed while waving an arm goodbye. "You guys are so fucking weird, you know that?" he said. "Not eating any food in the day. Roaming around at night."
Muzan's eyes narrowed to slits, but Akira still smiled. He said, "Well, it's none of my business how you live your life. Just don't bring any trouble back here, yeah?" He turned away and closed the door, leaving [Y/n] and Muzan to stare at each other in silence. They held a secret between them, and it burned like fire.
[Y/n] faced south and began walking, prompting Muzan to follow alongside him. Muzan cut the silence, "We get my ingredients first, and then we go to this Yasuyori Village you speak of."
He chuckled at Muzan's demanding tone. "Hehe, you're not as thorough as you thought huh?"
Muzan sneered, "Oh please, as if I would know Yasuyori was in fact the name the locals use for their own village. It makes much more sense if it was one of the ingredients I needed to procure in the capital."
"Now, now. No need to be upset, Muzan. Besides, I only remembered because of my talk with Akira. He was once stationed there for a while after all."
Muzan laughed. It was a cold and hard sound, like ice shattering.
[Y/n] paid it no mind, used to Muzan's dry demeanor. "Should I thank him instead then?" Muzan asked, voice filled with bitterness.
He sighed. "What's been up with you? You're so—"
