"We'll talk later, but get to school, you're going to be late!" Oda yelled across the room, grabbing Dazai's backpack and throwing it at him before he left the house. "You almost forgot your bag!"
Dazai just grinned and opened the door, flying down the front steps as he yelled "Bye, Odasaku!" and left the door hanging open. Oda grumbled as he watched Dazai rush down the street, pulling the door shut. "Seventeen years old and this kid still hasn't learned how to shut a door..." he murmured, turning to get ready for his day.
Meanwhile, Dazai rushed down the street, hoping to make it to school on time. He's admittedly not the best student, and almost always late to all his classes, but Atsushi had promised to let him copy his homework on the condition that he met up with him by the fence before school started. And if he's being honest, he really needs a good grade on that homework.
"Atsushi!" Dazai gasped, having made it to school in six minutes, rather than his usual ten. Five minutes until class started. Atsushi looked up from his notebook, a smile appearing on his face when he saw Dazai. "Dazai! Took you long enough," Atsushi shoved his notebook at Dazai. "I don't have Mr. Mori until fourth period, you can copy this during first and hand yours in during second, and then give this back to me at lunch so I can hand it in during my class."
The homework was for Biology class, he and Atsushi both had Mr. Mori, but during different periods. Mr. Mori gives out the same homework to all his classes, so Dazai always copied off Atsushi whenever he could. "Thanks, 'Sushi! See you in Math!" Dazai called, as Atsushi ran off towards the school, trying not to be late for first period. Dazai took his sweet time getting to class, only arriving a few minutes late.
"Dazai, you're late again," Koyou said as Dazai slid into his seat next to Ranpo.
"Sorry, Mrs. Ozaki. It won't happen again," Dazai lied, winking at the teacher. Koyou sighed, before returning to the board, explaining their next assignment.
"This is a very important project that will be worth a large percentage of your mark. Please do not take this lightly," Koyou informed the class, her gaze shifting slightly to Dazai and Ranpo, who were giggling over a meme on Ranpo's phone. "You must write an essay on the book Golden Demon, which everyone should be nearly finished by now, as we have been reading it as a class for almost the entire semester," she continued, giving Dazai and Ranpo a death glare.
"It must be a minimum of 2,000 words, or about four pages. You will discuss each subtopic with about three paragraphs..." Dazai zones out during the rest of her explanation, bored because Ranpo had decided to put his phone away and focus on the assignment details. Ranpo was smart, but his average always hovered around the low eighties, but Dazai knew he could get high nineties if he wanted to. Hell, he could get 100's if he really put his mind to it.
Dazai could almost say the same about himself. He knows he's smart, but like Ranpo, he's simply just too lazy to do any of the work. Besides, the amount of mental energy it takes for him to even do one worksheet or task is just too much. All he has to do is pass all his classes, and he'll be fine.
Speaking of which, that's what he and Odasaku had been talking about this morning, before they lost track of time and Dazai was almost late. Shit, that reminds him. He has homework to copy.
Pulling Atsushi's work out of his bag, alongside his own blank worksheet, he grabbed a pencil and began copying it down. Ranpo looked over at what he was doing and let out a little laugh, recognizing Atsushi's handwriting. Dazai smirked back, continuing his 'work.'
By the time English class was over, he had just finished copying it all down. Dazai packed up his things and left the classroom as the bell rang, making his way to his second period class, Biology, with Mr. Mori. Dazai walked in, shuffling into his seat next to Akutagawa, one of Atsushi's friends, who Dazai has slowly formed a friendship with over the course of the semester.
As the bell rang, and Mr. Mori walked in, instructing them to hand all their homework in, Dazai began to regret not stopping by the bathroom for a hit before class started. He hated both Biology and Mr. Mori, and nicotine would help him through this class. Not much, but it would. Akutagawa might have a vape on him, but he wasn't sure if he vaped or not. No harm in asking, he decided, and tapped Akutagawa's shoulder.
"Hey, you got a vape?" he whispered, so quietly nobody else except Akutagawa could have heard him. Akutagawa just looked at him like he was insane. "Nah, I quit, my doctors made me," was the reply, and Dazai frowned. Worth a shot. He supposed he could just go and hope someone else was in the bathroom that would let him hit.
He raised his hand, and Mr. Mori looked up. "Yes, Dazai?" he asked, and Dazai put his hand down before speaking. "Can I use the restroom?"
"It's may I use the restroom, and yes you may," he replied, dismissing Dazai from class. Dazai grinned and made his way to the bathroom. The whole trip would be pointless if there was nobody in there, but at least he was out of class either way. He pushed open the bathroom door, revealing the very last person he wanted to see right now.
"Hi, Chuuya," he greeted, and the ginger looked up from his phone, blowing smoke from his mouth. Ah, he had exactly what Dazai was looking for.
"Hm, Dazai. What are you doing in here?" Chuuya asked, as if he didn't already know the answer to his question. "Looking for a hit. Can I fiend?" He asked, motioning towards the vape up Chuuya's sleeve. "Yeah," Chuuya muttered, handing it to him.
"Are you high?" Dazai questioned, taking a hit and instantly sighing in relief. "Shit, that's good."
"Mhm..." Came Chuuya's reply, and he tilted his head back to hit the stall door. Dazai bit back a smile. He had Chuuya in his third period class, Drama. "Barely, though. Had it before school, fucking effects are wearing off now," Chuuya clarified, and Dazai nodded. "I see."
He hit the vape again, before handing it back to Chuuya. "Thanks, I needed that. Don't smoke again, Mr. Oguri said we had a new project today," Dazai offered, but just received a glare in response. "Don't tell me what to do."
"Jeez, okay," Dazai murmured, before leaving the bathroom and heading back to class.
He and Chuuya didn't get along well. They tolerated each other when they had to, like when they were paired up in class, or when they hung out with mutual friends, which happened often, considering they had a lot of mutual friends. But otherwise, Chuuya was a pain in Dazai's ass and Chuuya thinks that Dazai is the most annoying person on Earth. Which, of course, Dazai goes out of his way to do, he's not going to deny enjoying Chuuya's reactions to his endless teasing and insults.
Dazai's thoughts were torn away from Chuuya when he reentered the biology classroom, where he sat back down next to Akutagawa, listening to Mr. Mori drone on and on about who knows what.
(A/N: Guess who's back with super short chapters because he can't get the motivation to write unless he completes one chapter in one sitting? Yeah, me. A couple notes I have about this are that while I don't intend to have drugs be the main focus of the story, they're definitely going to be in here, and I decided to make them vape instead of smoke cigs because that feels more realistic for a high schooler but idk. Anyway. I hope you enjoy this fic because I might actually continue it yayyy)
