Kagehina: The First Meeting

For this story, I'm doing an experiment for the dialogue. Please state in the comentary if you like it or not.

Kageyama always knew he was gay. When he was still in his first year of middle school, he had a crush on one of the guys in his class. Confused, he went to see a senpai for advice, Oikawa-san. Kageyama still remembers that day crystal clear even after many years. After practice, he went to talk to his senpai.

K: Oikawa-san, could you...

O: No I won't teach you my killer serve you brat. BLEH! Ow! Iwa-chan, stop throwing balls at me!

K:It's not that.

O:Then what is it if it's not volleyball?

K: I like someone in my class.

O: Oh my, could it be? My kohai who always only think of volleyball has a heart after all? Who's the unlucky girl who caught your eye?

K: It's... a boy.

Oikawa and Iwaizumi looked at each other. It was a very serious topic.

O: Listen Kageyama. Liking boy is nor weird, nor bad, and everyone who think otherwise is wrong. You have the right to love whoever you want. Do you understand?

K: Yes.

He later learned that the term was "gay". He never got to confess to his crush since he got transferred into another school the year after. He never got another major crush after that.

Some years later, before a tournament in his third year of middle school, he saw a very cute boy who was getting harassed by some second year of his team when he left the bathroom. He obviously put his teammates back in their place. Then he also lectured the boy. He might be cute, but he was also in the wrong.

K: A guy who don't watch their health before a tournament shouldn't talk big. Why are you even here? To make fun memories for your last year?

?: I'm her to win.

K: You say that as if it was easy.

?: I might not be tall, but I can fly.

These words and the confidence they had made Kageyama's heart flutter. But he remembered the absurdity they had.

K: We'll see on the court.

Turn out, the first team he was against was the cute boy's team. Kageyama could tell they weren't good. The setter was doing a lot of rooky mistakes and the level of the team was pretty basic. They would be more at they're place in a PE class than in a volleyball tournament. He tought the cute boy's word were just fluke, till he say it. His jumps were incredible. He really could fly! A bit later in the game, the ball was going to land. It was obvious that no one could get it. Yet the boy ran to catch it. He didn't succed and rolled into the wall. When his teamates asked him why he was trying so hard for a match that was doomed, he responded:

?: Well, we haven't lost yet, right?

Kageyama realised he was right. It really was that simple. No matter how impossible it looked, there was only one rason to keep chasing the ball. It was because it didn't touch the ground yet. After some points, the other team had trowned the ball far. Kunimi could reach it. If he only ran faster and longer, he would have made it. But, thinking he wasn't gonna make it, he slowed down. It frustraded Kageyama. How come the boy was willing to gave it his all even if he wasn't that good, but his own teamate wasn't doing his 100%. He lashed out at him. After that he heard wispers about the ''king of the court'' or his ''temper''. But for now, his goal was winning. So what if he hurted Kunimi's feeling? At the last point of the match, when it was the time for the setter to set the ball for the cute boy, he made a big mistake. Instead of going in front of him, the ball was trown behind him, where no one could spike it. Kageyama tought it was the end, but a person had appeared in front of him. It was the boy, who was previouly at the other side of the net. It had appened so fast, he couln't catch up. The spike was out, but the setter was flabergasted. Never he had seen such insane athletisme. He snaped out of it, and before the boy could go, he asked to him:

K: What did you do all these years?!

The boy never responded.

At the end of the day, when his team was going home, the setter wondered if he was ever going to see this cute freak of nature. Then, he heard someone yell:''YOU!''. When he turned around, he say it was the boy. Kageyama's heart strangly started to beat faster. The boy said:

?: If you really are the king who rule the court, then someday i'm gonna beat you! And I'm gonna be the one who stays on the court longer than anybody else!

It was a bold statement.

K: Only the winners stay on the court. Only the best. If you want to win, then get sronger! Get better.

On that Kageyama turned around. But, at the last second, he turned around.

K: I don't think i ever got your name.

?: I'm Hinata Shoyo.

K: I'm Kageyama Tobio.

As he was getting in the bus, he tought with a grin:'' Hinata, huh? Fitting name.''
