I arrived at Oakwood High about 15 minutes later.

"Finally! Peace at-" I didn't even get to finish my sentence before being tackled into a hug.

"Emily! It's about time you got here. School is almost starting!" the person screeched.

I narrowed my eyes at her. "Jeez Hailee...calm your horses."

"I know but I'm just so excited! Just 8 more days till Election Day!!!" she grinned.

"Well of course you're excited. I'm guessing you're running for the position of Vice President?"

"You know me so well Ms. Covington. By the way, nice look you got there" she said, while trying to hold in a laugh.

I cringed then look down. In my haste to get to school on time this morning, I realized I didn't exactly pick out a matching outfit. It turns out, I was actually wearing a a multi-color flannel shirt with a pair of dark washed skinny jeans and neon flats. My normally straight chestnut brown hair was a bit messy this morning so I put it up in a high pony tail and I didn't even bother to put a lot of make-up on.

"Ugh, please don't remind me. It's not my fault I got lost in time and you're just so damn perfect" I grumbled.
Hailee, in my opinion, was very pretty. She had stunning dark chocolate hair and really nice green eyes that boys always seemed to get lost in.

"Me? Perfect? Have you look in the mirror, girl?" She said cheerfully. I raised an eyebrow at her.
"Okay, fine. I have to admit, your gray eyes are really intense, but even so, they're gorgeous! I bet even You-know-who had fallen in love with them!" She laughed.

"Whatever, Hails. And shut up!" I whispered frantically. She teased me even more.

Hailee has serious issues. After I told her I liked this sophomore named Zach, she wouldn't stop teasing me. But how could I not? He had soft platinum blond hair and really really nice gray eyes, just like mine. We like only talked to each other a few times but that doesn't mean I stopped liking him. And besides, I always seemed to get lost in his eyes....every single time. Huh. Looks like I'M the one with the issues...

"Earth to Emily?" Hailee asked, while waving a hand frantically in front of my face.

"Didn't you hear me? The bell just rang. Let's go enjoy a nice peaceful morning with Mr. Hollis. God knows he's cranky af in the morning" she continued, sarcastically.

"Hmm? Oh yeah." I replied, still dazed.

She rolled my eyes at me then we started walking towards the school, with me trying to catch up with her fast paced walking.

1st Period, Algebra
"Attention class! Today we will be solving some algebraic equations that will count as a quiz grade!" Mr. Hollis boomed, and everyone groaned.

"Oh great. There's nothing better than doing math problems in the morning, right?" I mumbled grumpily to Hailee, who was actually half-asleep. God knows why she could be so cheerful one moment and looking like a retarded zombie the next.

"and we will be working in pairs today! Don't worry kids, I'll save you runts the trouble and will assign them
to you!" he continued, smiling widely.

I groaned inwardly again, except way louder.

"Please don't let me be with Stacy, please don't let me be with-

"Emily! You and Ms. Buitron are to be partners! So please get your behind over there!" Mr. Hollis yelled at me.

I mentally cursed at him. I swear, he should really get fired for torturing kids.

"Emily! Honey! Get over here so we can start! The sooner the better right?" Stacy smiled sweetly, while battling her eyelashes, obviously just for show.

I glared at her and if looks can kill, she'll be dead on the floor right now.
I hesitated but since I have no choice, I dragged myself to the other side of the room, to where the she-devil is then reluctantly sat down across from her.

"Let's start so we can get this over with. If I have to spend any more minute with you, I swear I'm gonna catch the ugly disease" she sneered.

"Fine with me. But people probably already caught it by just looking at YOU" I retorted.

"Ohh, shots fired!" Hailee yelled from somewhere across the room.

She scowled at me then at Hailee but thankfully, didn't say anything else.

I grinned victoriously then get to work.
---
We finished 5 minutes before the bell rang.

And so, being the bored person that I am, I stood up to stretch my arms and looked around the classroom for Hailee. I finally spotted her sitting near the door, talking with some girl, probably about some random crap. I sighed. Typical Hailee. I then turned completely around, with my back to Stacy, and bumped straight into my friend, Conner.

"Hey Conner. Sorry bout that. I wasn't looking when I turned around" I apologized.

"Uh um no pro-problem Emily. I'm th-the one who should be sor-sorry." He stuttered, his face all flustered up.

We then stared at each other awkwardly.

Part of the reason why it was awkward because Conner had a huge crush on me. Everyone in 9th grade knows it and I had to admit, I feel a bit embarrassed by that because well, I mean he's cute and all, but I just can't picture myself with him, or anyone else for that matter. Besides, he knows I'm head over heels for Zach and he STILL likes me. Honestly, that guy can't take a hint.

So to get rid of the tension, I smiled awkwardly at him and started to sit down but I then realized a second too late that there was in fact, no chair at all behind me and I would have fallen if Conner didn't grab me. But the humiliating thing is, he didn't exactly grabbed my shoulder, well I think he intended to but instead, he grabbed the collar of my shirt.

Everyone bursted out laughing except for Hailee and Conner and I could feel the blood rushing to my face. I turned around and face Stacy.

"Why in hell did you do that Stacy!" I growled at her.

"Oops, my bad" she replied innocently, while laughing as if I'm some sort of clown.

"I swear, I'm gonna strangle-"

But before I could finish my threat, Hailee came to my rescue.

"Ok, let's go now before you do something you'll regret" she whispered in my ear.

I was about to open my mouth to argue back but decide against it.

"Fine" I whispered back, angrily.

I then gave Stacy one last menacing glare before walking out the room, thankful that I have study hall right after this.
