I open my eyes suddenly taking a deep breath. My body immediately gives me the impression of weighing ten tons, while I stand up like a possessed. A few seconds pass, time that my brain takes to try to make me understand to my body that I just woke up - because I have the impression to return from a state of total bliss, as if I was coming out of a deep and painful coma.

My breath rushed, but a hand landed on my bare, sweaty torso. I turned my head and met Garnet’s eyes. He observes me intensely, so as to reassure me of his best so that I rest my head on the pillow. I agree to lengthen without ever leaving my eyes, because I am afraid. I do not understand what happens to me, which disturbs my mind. I feel like a stranger in my own body, which rekindles my panic.

What right does this beta have to touch us ?

I suddenly start looking around. What was that voice? I’m sure it came from my head. I didn’t hallucinate. It is therefore naturally that a justified panic seizes me, and pushes me to want to scream my despair but I content myself with swallowing while looking at Garnet again.

"What’s the matter with me, Garnet?" I muttered, "I don’t really feel myself, something is wrong."

He pinches his lips and looks away by removing his hand from my torso.

"Listen, Jelyan. You have become a supreme alpha.

A moment of silence passes, because my brain tries to assimilate this sentence to better interpret and accept it.... Well, for acceptance, we’ll see later.

- I refuse.

As if you had a choice, pathetic human.

I quickly put both my hands on my ears, breathing in big puffs. Garnet looks at me again and frowns.

"I swear I’m not crazy," I said before swallowing. "But someone is talking to me."

My revelation doesn’t look like the shocked one. If I had told him I had just been thrown by a girl, his reaction would be just like. It just pisses me off, and I have no idea why.

- Garnet! React, damn it!

The voice in my head loudly supports my anger. As a result, Garnet comes out of his stupor and looks at me as if I am death in person. He lowers his eyes, thus, I perceive inexplicably the senseless beating of his heart. I hear his blood flowing through his veins, his lungs bursting with air and deflating at an alarming rate. It’s getting weirder and weirder.

"My apologies, alpha."

"What’s the matter with you? Pull yourself together.

What a loser!

"Shut your mouth!" I shouted to the voice of the rude.

I am the supreme wolf, the original. The one who now gives meaning to your pathetic existence. You owe me colossal respect.

"Garnet... there’s a wolf talking to me. I swear, I’m not crazy.

My best friend moistens his lips and blows his head. This is where I feel like I’m recovering a trace of the one I really know.

"Jelyan, you are the supreme alpha now. The great wolf has taken his place in your mind.

"I... how did it happen?"

I put my feet on the ground and gently straighten myself, growling in pain. I feel pain everywhere, as if my bones were broken one by one before being put back in place. Certainly, I feel more flexible than before, but every movement gives me a heavy pain, as if I had been swimming in the open sea for days without ever stopping.

And it is only when I find myself on both my legs that I notice another strange case: I am the same size as Garnet, out before it was sticking out of me by a head. That’s not all, I feel my hair normally very short, touching my shoulders. I also gained some muscle, but nothing too extravagant. I turned my head in all directions, until I spotted a large mirror on foot.

I rush towards it, before freezing in front of my reflection. I notice only two familiar details: My skin is as white as before and my eyes have kept their gray - even if they are now as intense as liquid metal. Those are two things I recognize. But in terms of the rest.... I’m not sure I can stay calm.

My new hair - which was indeed blond and very short - became long and as black as ink. I also grew abnormally. My reflection makes me look like a savage, ready to jump to the throat of the first comer.

Start with this useless beta.

"I asked you to shut up, whispered as I moved away from my reflection."

This is where I begin to perceive everything around me more acutely. Every sheep of dust floating around me is visible, and if I’m not mistaken, I can almost see the wind. My new curious eyes detail the discoveries that my human gaze could never have contemplated before.

And I take offence when I find out that Garnet doesn’t have black eyes like I’ve always seen and believed. His irises are brown. Dark, but still brown. I do not rest any longer on this evidence, so as to look more deeply at what surrounds me.

But something else also develops in parallel, my sense of smell. A strangely enticing scent of fresh flesh envelops my nostrils. Several kilometers away, I hear the heartbeat of an animal, instinc, I guess it is a deer. And all I can think about is eating it.

"Jelyan" said Garnet, slowly approaching me.

When I cross his gaze, he freezes a few seconds before continuing. I observe each of his steps, and strangely, I feel threatened and outraged that he wants to violate my perimeter.

But I skillfully drown this intimidating feeling, enough not to let myself be overwhelmed by anger and animosity that do not belong to me.
