If it wasn't for that book, you never would have met him. If it wasn't for that book, you wouldn't be watching him bleed out in front of you, helpless to do anything.

2 months earlier

It was a long day at work, and you just wanted to go home. Your ( h/c) hair was pulled into a high ponytail, and you were wearing a black tee and kapris. Walking to your car, you notice a new book shop in the corner and decide to take a look. You walk in, and the relaxing smell of incense wafes into your nose. You sigh and look towards the counter, which is empty. Not thinking anything of it, you walk along the shelves browsing the covers, noticing several titles you recognize. " See anything you like?" You jump, the deep voice behind you startling you.

You turn around to see a classically tall, dark, and handsome guy smirking down at you, intelligent, piercing green eyes staring into what seems ... your soul. " y-yeah. I've read a lot of these... but this one..." You grab a random book to avoid awkwardness and glance at the title, " hidden dreams" you glance up at him and hold up the book for his viewing, " I think I'll get this one. He chuckles, " Good choice." he walks to the counter and gestures to you, " Let me wrap that for you. " You walk over to the counter and hand it to him, reaching for your wallet. " Don't bother. It's on the house." He winks at you, and you blush muttering "thanks" he holds it out to you, and when you take it, your hands touch, sending a zing of electricity through you straight to your core. His eyes widen, and his mouth opens as if to say something important, but instead, he says, " Have a great day." disappointed, you mutter a polite answer and leave, heading to your car.

Leaving the shop, you notice it's dark. Confused, you looked at your phone, convinced it was only a few minutes. Shook, you rush to your car, hurrying home.

As soon as you walk in the door, your dog ( d/n) runs to you barking. You play with them for a minute, then head to the kitchen to fix some food. Even though you're starving, you put a bowl of food down for (d/n) first. They wag their tail happily and chow down. You smile and heat up a plate of spaghetti left over from the night before. Sitting at the table, you enjoy your dinner and scroll through your social media. After dinner, you head upstairs to a hot shower groaning as the hot water poars on your tired body. Leaning against the wall, you think about your work day. Your boss yelled at you for dropping a plate in front of customers and put you on dish duty for the rest of the night. Sighing you turn of the shower and get dressed, trudging to bed. ( d/n) hops up in bed beside you and warms your side. You smile and pat their back. You glance at the side table and notice the book you just bought, and the man from the shop comes to mind. You blushed at the thought of the sensation that his touch gave you and picked up the book. You only read the first page before you slip into a deep sleep.
