A Day, Out of Chronology

tonight, traffic.
impatient red grumbling
like the engines;
silence and thoughts
are my companions.

evening, the strands of her hair
softly rustling with the fading summer,
she is looking at me,
face flushed with sunset,
backdropped by
the colors of harvest and
crisp autumn air.

afternoon, observing
a turning world from afar.
the muted words of friends
rise and fall like the moon;
I wonder what they're laughing about?
one day I won't be able to watch them,
won't be able to wonder.

morning, 2am.
a shadow on the asphalt.
it floats away, I chase it;
shadows are meant to follow but
it flies like a bird into the stars.
