Where am I?
Why am I here?
How did I end up here?
Ah.. I remember...

THUD!
"What was that noise?"
My little brother and I hurriedly rushed outside to see what was going on despite the protests of our maid. It's rare for us to stay up this late, waiting for our parents. It's also rare for us to hear a big and loud sound from our balcony. We were kids. We disregard our own safety to satisfy our own curiosity. I guess that kickstarted our desire for adventure.
We swung the glass door open, the poor maid trying to keep up with our eager energy. The balcony filled with bustling laughter as the maid followed us outside. We stopped at our tracks when we saw a marvelous sight. Soon, our own voices were drowned by the loud sound that's coming from the view.
What was before us looked like a huge storm was madly driving a ship with the use of the force of black violent waves, swaying our own balcony along with it. The seagulls fly as chaotically as the waves, bells and chimes were echoing in the heavens, the sky roared with thunder, targeting the ship.
The maid was holding on the railings for her dear life, shouting, "PLEASE HELP!! HELP US!!! SOMEBODY HELP US" But no one would hear. None would come.
My brother and I were not afraid. In fact, we did not perceive this as dangerous. Rather, we perceived it as something beautiful.
Without hesitation, my little brother jumped off the balcony and swam into the water, a permanent smile on his face as he travels the sea smoothly.
I stayed by the balcony, my hands meeting the cold steel of the bottom of the unstable ship. I was not as energetic as my little brother, but I am as curious and fascinated as him.
For a second, I saw my own reflection. Then the waves washed it off, revealing a huge... fish(?). I've never seen this type of fish before. To be fair, I'm not in this world for too long to be able to identify common fishes. But still, this... As long as it lives underwater, it's a fish... right? It was way bigger than the ship. I'd say it could even be bigger than a whale!
Contrasting the blinding lights that keep flashing on the ship, the lightning and thunder, and the deafening sounds of the birds and the bells, this fish was quiet and dark. The darkness envelops most of its body, leaving only an eye just visible enough.
It made eye contact with me...
And I feel like we were the only ones that exist in this world. Everything got blocked out, only me and this fish are in this void, together...
As my eyes slowly got used to the darkness, I looked at the fish more closely. The fish looked deformed and mangled. Other than the eye, I couldn't distinguish which part is which. I try to make out the color of this creature but at face value, it looked dark blue. However, it could be just the reflection of the sea.
Guessing the color ended with no concrete conclusion as the actual color of this creature soon bathed in red when the ship made contact with it, leaving it to die along with thousands of people that were in the ship.
But I couldn't take my eyes away from the creature. Despite how its body looked, and how everything is bathed red, its wounds didn't resemble that of hitting a big ship. It looked more like it was cut halfway in all sides...
Afterwards, it ended. My hand touching an empty space.
It was a mirage. Everything was.
From the waves of the sea, to the big ship, to that unknown creature living deep underwater...
Our maid was relieved that we weren't in any danger. But I didn't want to believe that everything was just an illusion— that that creature was an illusion. I saw it with my own eyes! I felt it with my own hand! I bombarded our maid's ears with endless questions regarding what just happened. But she did not provide any answers...
Ever since then, I didn't stop seeking out any kind of information about this big fish-like creature. I went to several aquariums with my little brother as we grow up, trying to look for it in even the smallest nook and cranny. Its figure, its body, its eye, everything about this creature was stuck in my head for years. Even its wounds and its condition are embedded in my mind— flat, with several cuts, bleeding profusely. That was the creature I know. That was the creature I wanted...
....I couldn't believe I would see it again after all these years.....
It looked as beautiful as I remember...

My eyes burst open as I choke, my lungs felt like they were filled with water. I sat up as I continue to hack and cough while a little kid by my side looked at me with concern.
I quickly turned my head as soon as he entered my peripheral vision.
"Ah, it's you."
That person... with that creature...
"What's your name again?"
"Ajax!" With his innocent and pure smile, as well as the bright hopeful glint in his eyes, he reminded me of my younger brother...
My chest burned as I felt the need to protect this kid. If my body permits it, I will use all my power to do so. But, he must also be able to protect himself. After all, that creature chose him.
"Alright Ajax, listen up. This place is dangerous so starting from now, I will train you!"
