PROLOGUE
My eyes twinkled as I looked up at the sky. Small, white dots coated the sky with its dim light.
"It's beautiful, isn't it?"
I turned to face him, Noah. The guy who's been here all my life. I grasped his hand tightly as he pulled me in. I could hear his soft, warm breaths. My short smile eroded. I struggled against the tears swelling up in my eyes. The bright light from the stars above us shone on our grim faces.
"It's going to be okay. I promise," Noah assured.
"No, it's not," I cried. "I'm never going to see you again."
I cried into his chest, staining his white, collared shirt. He caressed my tear-stained cheek and lured me closer. He pressed his lips against mine, passing the warmth between us. I pulled away shortly after, turning to face the shimmering sky.
"You're going to be up there soon," I whispered.
His soft smile faded. "Yeah."
All the treatments have failed. We could only do nothing but enjoy the time left. I blinked fast, trying to prevent any more tears from spilling out.
I had to stay strong.
For him.
