Shadow paced back and forth at the front door in a trench coat, waiting for Rouge to finish her makeup. His thoughts were on the upcoming New Year's Party. He and Tails just became boyfriends two days ago. Despite that, the two never kissed. Then Rouge came down in a winter coat. "All ready to go?" The hedgehog nodded, and they made their way to the party. The party was at a party penthouse that the group had rented for the night.
Shadow just fidgeted in his seat as Rouge drove them to the party. "You know that they, you two, are gay, right?" Rouge reassured.
"It's not that I'm worried about. We don't want it to be made into a big deal."
"They won't do that." She said, waving a hand.
"They did it with you, and Knuckles started to date, and when Sonic and Amy started to date." Shadow huffed as he crossed his arms.
"Ok, maybe this time they got the message." Shadow only rolled his eyes in response.
The two soon arrived at the penthouse they rented for the night. When they entered, the two saw that everyone except Sonic, Amy, Knuckles, and Tails was there. "Hey, Shadow, Rouge, how are you two?" Silver asked, walking up to the two.
"We're doing good," Rouge answered. Shadow quickly scanned the room and saw that almost everyone was there.
"So, where are Sonic, Amy, Knuckles, and Tails?" Shadow asked, still looking around for the four.
"Oh, they haven't arrived yet." Silver said. "We tried to call them, but they aren't picking up." The two put their coats on a hangar before talking to their friends and enjoying the snacks. A few hours later, there was still no sign of the four.
"Did Knuckles text you about why they are late, Rouge?" Espo asked. Then, almost on cue, the front door opened, revealing them. Amy, Tails, and Knuckles were giving Sonic death glares as they walked in.
"Hey, guys, sorry we are late. Traffic was horrible," Sonic said nervously. Everyone could almost hear the other three roll their eyes. The group then walked up and started to talk with the rest of their friends. After a few minutes of talking, Tails and Shadow could slink away.
The two entered a small room far away from the group. "So, what happened?" Shadow said as he closed the door.
"Ok, so we, we late leaving my house. So, Sonic had the brilliant idea to speed with the icy roads to make it early. Don't worry. We didn't crash into anyone. Anyway, a cop saw us, and Sonic had another brilliant idea to start a chase!"
"Wow," Shadow facepalmed.
"Ya, we convinced Sonic to pull over before it got really bad. Then, once the cops saw him, they decided to have this long-winded conversation. Then Amy got out of the car and nearly ripped his ear off."
"I'm lucky that I don't have to deal with him all the time," Shadow sighed.
"Trust me. He just drives me up a wall some days." He huffed. "But enough about him," Tails said, waving his hand. "I think we should do something?" He said, leaning in close.
"Yes, I think we should," Shadow said, leaning in close. Tails and Shadow were about to kiss when Knuckles burst in.
"There you two are! I've been looking all over for you!" Then he got a good look at the two. "Was I interrupting something?"
"No," The two said in unison. Knuckles rolled his eyes in response.
"Anyway, pizza is here." With the mood now ruled, they followed him back into the kitchen. Tails grabbed a slice and, when Sonic noticed him, pulled him into a coroner.
"So, did you two do it?" Sonic whispered.
"No," Tails hissed. "Knuckles interrupted us. Ruined the damn mood." Sonic chuckled a bit in response.
"Just two days as boyfriends, and you are already acting like him." He joked. Tails gave his bother a good jab in the ribs.
"Ah! Look, how many times must I say I am sorry?" Sonic huffed. The fox only rolled his eyes in response before finding someone else to talk to. Tails slinked away again after finishing his pizza and talking to a few people. He waited in the room where he and Shadow were about to kiss. He waited about thirty minutes and was about to exit when Shadow entered the room.
"Sorry, I got held up in a game of darts with Espio and Vector," Shadow said, closing the door.
"It's fine, so how much did you win by?" The fox replied with a smirk.
"A lot. Vector was desperate to win at least one game. So, to finally let me go, I let him win. Even then, he barely won." Tails let out a laugh.
"What about Espio?"
"After losing a few games, he backed down and watched the show." The Tails got closer.
"Should we resume what we were doing?"
"Yes, I think we should." The two then started to lean in close. Just as the two were about to kiss, Vector burst in. "Hey guys," He beamed.
"What!?" The two yelled angrily. Vector recoiled at the sudden outburst.
"It's almost the new year. Everyone is outside watching the fireworks." He nervously responded. With the mood ruined again, the two followed him to the balcony. Everyone was near the railing, seeing the dazzling light show. Tails and Shadow decided to stay behind them. The two thought, screw it, they would kiss at midnight. They didn't care if their friends would make it a big thing. It would be the perfect moment to do so.
Tails and Shadow sided-hugged each other close as their friends counted down. As they got closer to zero, the two turned to each other and moved closer. Then the group yelled Happy New Year as a storm of fireworks went off; the two finally kissed. They stayed like that just long enough for everyone to see them kiss. Everyone but Sonic and Rouge were shocked to see them kissing. As Shadow predicted, they all made it a big deal except for four.
