Barb's POV
A loud shrilling broke the silence of my dark bedroom, my alarm ringing. It was 6 am, three hours before I had to be in class. Today is my first day of college at Southeastern Louisiana University. I was nervous, but excited. Excited to finally leave behind the people of my high school, especially this one girl who has been a sort of enemy of mine since our junior year.
I got up with a yawn, I don't know if I'll ever be used to waking up so early. The college is forty minutes away, and it takes me nearly an hour to get ready with my showering routine. I'm still having to take my little sister to school every day, because she's too stupid to pass her driving test; she's failed it twice already.
I take a long shower, making sure to freshen up especially nice because of it being the first day. After I got out I figured I should eat. My favorite right now is ketchup and eggs, yeah I know I'm weird...a weirdo if you must.
After I ate my eggs, I made sure my sister, Rita, was awake and ready. After ten minutes of waiting we were finally in the car, driving down my long driveway. We lived deep in the woods; my parents loved the secludedness of it.
Me and Rita talked of the new boy she's talking to. I'm proud of her because she's confident; she always knows what she wants and how to get it. We got to her school fast and I dropped her off in the carpool line.
As I'm driving away, my nervousness grows. Meeting new people has never been hard for me, but taking all new, harder classes is what's scaring me. High school was easy, but this is college. My teachers were always saying how they were building us up for college classes, how we won't have it as easy. I'm just hoping I'm able to keep up with my schoolwork, and I get along well with my professors.
The drive was long, but I listened to my favorite music along the way. Before I was ready I was pulling into the freshman parking lot. I'm slightly early, so I was able to find a good parking spot. My class was in the middle of campus, about a ten minute walk. I popped my airpods in and started on my trek.
I can't help but think about my enemy, Catherine. I know she's going to this college, but I know we won't have any classes together because we have completely different majors. I'm so glad for this, because I can't stand to see and smell her fat ass.
I can't even remember the exact reason why I hate her so much, but I justify it with the knowledge of how disgustingly ugly she is.
I finally get to my class and the door is wide open and welcoming. I walk in, find a seat in the middle, and pull my backpack onto my lap. The professor is sitting at her desk, a plaque stating "Professor Snapette; Math 101" sitting atop it. She looked to be in her mid forties, glasses at the bridge of her nose, a bun high on her head. She was smiling wide, watching the students walk in.
"That's a weird name, kind of sounds familiar," I thought to myself.
As more and more people gathered in, Professor Snapette's smile grew. I can tell I'm going to like her, she seems like a sweet, simple woman.
I decide to scroll on tiktok while I wait for class to begin, seeing that my friends Kay and Kira had sent me over 100 videos together. I would never tell them this, but I love opening my phone to that.
"I think this is everyone! Welcome!" Professor Snapette exclaimed, still with that energetic smile of hers.
I looked around the room to the other students and OMG! WTF!
"Is that Catherine?!" I shouted in my head. In the row to my right is a big-boned, oily creature with short brown hair. She looks different, with a darker hair color and a large eyebrow piercing.
"Oh my god, there's no way! How the hell are we in the same class?" I asked myself, unknowing of any answers.
