Chapter 19
Marlene's POV
I rush to the window as Reggie's owl pecks the glass. I open it to feed the mail carrier before I take the letter attached to its claw.
'HE asked to borrow Kreacher this Yule holiday. We should be able to act right after new years.' The note says. I take a deep breath as I throw the note into the fireplace, making sure it burns to ashes before walking away. Our plan is back on track with our next target being the locket. This will be one of the more dangerous missions we go on with the contents of the cave. The timeline has also sped up. Reggie retrieves the locket and dies in that cave after the Marauders graduate from Hogwarts, but for some reason, the event is happening before that. We need to move quickly once everything is all set though.
In the meantime, I'm now worried about my outfit for the Potter's Yule Ball tonight. My mother has been running around getting everyone ready since early this morning. She ordered a dress for both her and myself after she received the invitation. She had the tailor come for dad as well.
I will be meeting James's parents for the first time and to say that I'm nervous is an understatement. I need to get a hold of myself, it's not like we're meeting for marriage.
"Lena, darling, are you done getting dressed?" I hear mother on the other side of my bedroom door.
"Yes, mum. Come in." She comes into the room and stares at me.
"It looks beautiful on you." She smiles softly. "Sit down at the dresser, let me do your hair?"
I nodded and I sat down.
"So."
"So?" I replied as I looked at her through the mirror's reflection.
"The Potter's boy."
"What about him?" I blushed slightly.
"You wrote to us about him a couple of times this year and then all of a sudden our family gets invited to their manor for the Yule holiday. You know what that means don't you?"
I stared at her expression carefully before it hit me what she's insinuating, "Mum!"
"I'm just saying it's a possibility." She says calmly.
"Mother, I'm 16! So is he! We're not even officially boyfriend/girlfriend, we are NOT talking about marriage right now!"
My mother laughs, "Alright, alright." I huffed, completely red faced with embarrassment. I know pure-bloods tend to marry young but we're still in school. What if James and I don't work out and he still ends up with Lily? I subconsciously sigh, I'm doing it again. I know I really shouldn't. We're both happy with each other. I have to try to let go and give it my all. Regardless of it all, we are NOT talking about marriage. I refuse!
