It's been a month that I've been hiding out here and I feel like my brain is rotting. I haven't had any contact with anyone and I've barely even left the house. The only thing stacked up here is blood that looked fresh enough. That made me paranoid for the first few days because, well, someone had to have stocked it.
However, when no one showed up after a week, I figured I was in the clear. The only issue I have is that I really don't like to feast on so much blood. I don't get a choice in the matter though, considering I'm literally in the middle of nowhere. I found a tennis ball lying around oddly and so that's mainly what my days have consisted of—just throwing it around.
I sit in the empty guest bedroom, bouncing it off the walls and back to me. I've even figured out how to get it to go around the whole room now. It's become second nature and so I just use this time to think, fidgeting to prevent myself from going crazy. My thoughts consist mostly of Cordelia but that's not a surprise.
The blonde has had a way of worming herself into my subconscious ever since we met. My feelings for her only seem to have multiplied since we've been apart and I desperately want to know how she's doing. I haven't had the balls to call her though, telling myself I'll be bothering her. Also convincing myself that she may in fact not want to talk to me.
If I was in her position I'd be pissed by now, quite frankly. She'd never do something so senseless but if she had—I certainty would've reacted differently. My phone rings for the second time since I've been here and I assume it's Esme checking in. Although I made it clear I wanted no contact, she promised me that she would call every two weeks.
She worries for my safety and I understand that. If it was anyone else in my position I'd probably be the same way. I pick it up and as I see the caller ID my nerves skyrocket. I groan as the ball I'd forgotten about smacks me in the face. I rub my forehead gently as I'm distracted but I quickly realize I have yet to pick up the phone. I hastily press the green button before she has the chance to change her mind and place it to my ear.
At first we don't say anything, the only sound being our equally quick breathing. "Hi" I whisper, feeling as though I should be the one to speak up first since she didn't have to call. I notice how my voice trembles, a testament to my lack of speaking but mostly due to my inability to hide my feelings from the blonde.
"Hi" she echos in the same voice and I close my eyes to try and keep myself composed. "I'm glad you called" I voice, "well you weren't going to, obviously" she quips. An unfamiliar pain ripples through my heart at her harsh tone but I don't blame her. "I'm sorry. I didn't..." she stutters, "it's ok. I deserved that" I mutter and she huffs.
"You don't. I'm just frustrated, it's not your fault" she explains and I hum in response. I can't bring myself to verbalize a reply but luckily I don't have to. She picks up a conversation, talking about her day and it blends into a summary of all that's happened while we've been apart. At first I just let her ramble, basking in the joy of hearing her voice again.
Soon enough we're engaged in a playful banner just like before and I feel silly for my previous assumptions. She asks about what I've been up to and there really isn't much to tell. I do talk to her about how much I've missed her and I can almost picture the blush on her cheeks she giggles. "I basically stare at four walls all day" I sigh tiredly and she whines a little, the pout on her face being audible.
"I'm sorry, baby" she mumbles and I'm taken off guard by the pet name which is made clear by the following silence. "Reese?" I swallow a lump in my throat and try to reply but nothing comes out. Oh my god it's just a silly name. Except it's didn't sound so as it left her lips in a slightly raspy tone. "Joker..." she chuckles, "s-sorry" I stutter and mentally slap myself for being so awkward.
"Oh? You liked that little name I gave you, I see" I just know she's biting her lip which makes it even harder for me to contain myself. "What's the matter, pumpkin? Cat got your tongue?" She purposefully lowered her voice and its effective as I have clench my fist to stay still. My breathing shudders as I try to control it until I've finally managed to compose myself.
"Careful, witchy. I'm a lot more... revved up with all this blood in my system" I warn her and she just giggles cutely, "are you trying to frighten me?" I feel something else clench as her tone turns even more seductive than before. "You just wait until I get my hands on you I'm-" I stop abruptly as my eyes dart to the window in confusion.
Along with being practically insatiable, this new influx of blood has also heightened my senses. "Is everything ok?" I hear the concern in her voice and I'm about to quell her fears when I see a shadow dart past. No mortal can run that fast. I realize I have to act fast, not only to deal with this intruder but also to make sure the blonde doesn't jump to conclusions.
"Everything's fine I just got a really bad migraine. It's a side effect of this damn diet change, sorry to ruin the mood" I joke to ease her nerves and it works as I hear her chuckle. "It's fine... I'd rather not get too worked up when you're not here to help me" she says and as much as I want to play with her I don't have time.
"Oh I'm sure. Look... I have to hunt before it gets any worse but—I'll call you back" I say and her short silence proves to me that she knows I'm lying. "Ok... right after you're done?" She proposes, "yes. As soon as I'm done" I promise and she sighs. I stand up and my ears twitch as I hear quick rustling. "Alright. I love you" my heart flutters and I smile widely, "I love you too, witchy" I reply.
The line disconnects and I put the phone in my back pocket, taking careful steps out the room. I'm at the end of the hall so I start walking towards the main room. I stop breathing as it's just an extra sound that I don't need to hear right now. There's no sound in the house which calms me but only a little bit.
I tried my best to mask my scent around the area and so it'd be safe to foolishly hope that maybe they were just passing but I feel in my gut that's not the case. I know avoiding it will only prolong the outcome; I exit the house in search of this trespasser. Before I can even fully survey the area, I'm caught off guard and pinned to the ground.
My body is roughly flipped over and I'm met with the my assailant. He grins manically and I almost feel a sense of pride. I'm not easy to track down so I give him props for finding me, though I obviously don't admit it aloud. "Well... what now?" I ask showing no fear and he just chuckles, "now the real fun begins" he smirks.
