He could hear screeching sounds and a loud creak from a door. It was so dark that the only thing he could see was a small light shining through a door creak. If he laid down on the floor and made himself as flat as he could, he might could see under the door and see what's behind it. Nate's mind was rushing and he was sweating in fear. Whatever just had happened, if someone would ask him why he'd screamed so loud, he could't really give them an answer. There was this thing that was inside this room when he woke up, that tried to choke him once again, but his scream somehow made it disappear. That's the strangest thing he ever encountered. He wished he never went into that old haunted house, if he had been listening to Sam and Colby, because somehow they seemed to know that it wasn't a good idea to go inside. He should have wondered why they would leave such a spooky scene without going inside, like they don't have any interest in seeing the inside. That's not normal for them, leaving alone the fact that Sam looked like he had seen a ghost just minutes before they all went trick or treating. At least he never told them that he did, so all they could do was think whatever they want to think about his look. But ever since he and Alex went into that old haunted house, things have changed in a drastic way.

"You sure this is a good idea?" Alex had asked when they were finally inside the house. It wasn't easy to get inside, because every door and window was locked and the garden was so overgrown that you hardly could pass through it.

"Don't be a pig! Sure it's a good idea and it's fun too." Nate had said to Alex to make him believe it is a good idea to follow his friend inside the house. But once they were inside, a strange feeling crept up his back. It was like his body hair was trying to stand up so bad, that it ripped itself out of his skin. They both stood inside the big foyer of the old house and just looked around. It was dark, but somehow not as dark as he thought it would be. There were little lights on, which to be honest after thinking about it now, was so strange that he should have left right away. No way that it's normal to see lights inside an old empty house. That was strange enough for a normal human to just leave the scene and never come back, because it for sure scared you away from it. But Nate wanted to make sure that Sam and Colby regret that they weren't coming with them. He wanted to make sure that they know they've missed a huge chance, to feel sorry for not coming and seeing all of this.

"Yo, check this out." Alex then suddenly said and Nate turned around to follow the voice of his friend, who had disappeared inside a other room. It looked like the old kitchen when Nate turned around the corner and went inside the room Alex was in. Old cabinets hanging on the wall, looking like they would fall apart once being touched. They looked so old, moldy and were made out of wood which had grown grey overtime, that Nate couldn't really tell what was the year when they were made. That's how old they looked like. But whatever, they weren't here for getting some inspiration on how to fill out a kitchen in a 200 year old style, weren't they?

"What the hell is that?" Nate noticed Alex standing in a corner, looking outside the window. Nate wondered what could be so interesting outside that Alex would find more attractive than what was in this old haunted house they were in. But when Nate joined him when Alex pointed out the window, he could understand what Alex was so attracted to. Looking outside, Nate could see so many lights being lit up inside all the other houses that were looking like the people inside were already sleeping when he and the others got out of Sam's car. Somehow now, all the houses looked alive.

"What's going on?" Nate murmured, his eyes darting from one lit house to another. The once quiet and deserted neighborhood was now buzzing with life.

"I don't know, man. It's like they're all awake," Alex replied, his voice filled with confusion. He turned to look at Nate, his eyes wide with fear. "Do you think they know we're here?"
