eleanor leighton mitchell (born june 25, 1997) is a british racing driver, currently acting as the reserve/test driver for the formula one team, scuderia ferrari. mitchell competed in the fia formula two championship in 2017, finishing 2nd behind prema teammate charles leclerc and taking the championship the following year, 2018. she has also won the 2019 w series championship and the 2021 indy pro 2000 championship.
mitchell was born in quebec city to a canadian heiress, ruby cain and a british software engineer, donald 'donny' mitchell. the couple split not long after, with mitchell returning to the uk with donald and her older half-brother matthew mitchell, where they would stay until donald remarried in 2002.
in 2002, donald married pascale mitchell (formally gasly), mother of alpha tauri formula one driver pierre gasly. the couple moved to france and, in late 2002, welcomed a daughter, melanie mitchell. as of 2020, mitchell is fluent in english, spanish and french and has expansive knowledge of italian, german and dutch.
in 2016, mitchell took on former william's reserve driver, susie wolff, as a manager and joined the ferrrari drivers acadamy as its first female member.
in 2017, mitchell started dating red bull racing driver max verstappen following rumors regarding her prema teammate charles leclerc. the pair moved into their shared monegasque apartment in late 2019. well, mitchell is rarely seen in the red bull garage due to her connections with rival team, scuderia ferrari; the pair are constantly present on each other's social media feeds.
