I looked around, people were pointing at me and laughing. The generous ones, just looked and ignored me. I spotted Tebogo my best friend, she too was joining in on the laughter. I instantly knew what she had done, and I dashed out of the classroom, warm tears rolling down my cheeks.

I was crying hysterically in a cubicle, unable to grab hold of my emotions, How could she? I had trusted her with my utmost deepest secret, one that I had locked away for so many years, and now it was all out there, for everyone to know and laugh at.

I heard Tebogo call my name, she went on for a minute, silence. Suddenly the cubicle door swings open, “What do you want?” I scream at her.

“I’m sorry,” a whisper comes from her mouth, “I didn’t mean to.”

I push past her and rinse my face, “You’ve told the entire school! How could you?”

“Ok, please just stop being dramatic!” She states, her voice emotionless.

Her words stab my heart and rip it to pieces.

I just look at her, I cannot believe what my ears are telling me. My emotions are unfathomable.

I learned a valuable lesson that day, “Never trust friends”. I never conversed with Tebogo after that, not that we were rivals, just former friends that no longer conversed.
