A Nice Vacation

The world I remember is not the way in which it is known now. Before the plague, I had a family, two little boys, and a loving wife. I had a well-paying career and my family and I were stable. To this day I still can't comprehend my losses. I lost everything. I lost all my personal possessions, all my assets, my family and friends, and the entire world around me. Not like that even matters anymore since the entire planet is corrupted. I can't imagine that I'm the sole survivor, but for now, it's just me and my thoughts.

So far I have made refugee in an old abandoned farmhouse around 30 miles from the Canadian border. I haven't kept track of how many miles I've traveled. But I originated in Pocatello Idaho, born and raised. I must be somewhere in Montana as I have crossed signs. Many of them lay flat, scattered across the terrain, but some still manage to stand the way they once were. It's relieving in a way, to know that even after going through such a traumatic event, some pieces of the world still remain intact.

I am in no way shape or form prepared for the path I need to re-pave. I have no home to go back home to. No one to care for anymore since my entire family tree dropped dead. Having to choose between life and death is not an easy decision to make. For now, I need to raid my surroundings and make sure no more of these "creatures" are hiding about. I will tell you my findings in the morning. Wish me luck...

6:30 am

Somehow and someway I am still able to keep a pretty normal schedule. Going to bed at a decent hour and still waking up in the morning even though the sound of the alarm clock ceases to exist. At least I got some decent rest. I finally got to sleep in a bed for the first time in months.

Even though my discoveries were minimal, they were still gruesome in a way that whatever happened before abandonment, ended in death. All but one of the rooms were tainted with blood. Blood all over the bedsheets and smeared across the walls and floors. To me, it seems one individual succumbed to the disease and wiped out their entire family. Everything seems untouched. Dishes still lay in the sink filthed with whatever meal this household enjoyed before their final moments.

I was able to find some items that could be put to good use. I was able to find some canned goods that should last me a while. Even though I am not a huge fan of Chicken Noodle Soup, there is no time to be picky. I knew I was smart stopping here because this place was littered with weapons. These people must have been hunters or afraid of the terrors that might commence on this 12-acre property. I managed to break open a couple of gun safes and it's like finding a pot of gold. Three shotguns, two handguns, and a few sharp knives. The best site I've seen in weeks. I've just been on the run, me, myself, and my fists. I soon located a basket with ammunition nearby. I gathered up some extra things, like clothing, blankets, and a watch. I can finally be able to tell time without guessing about it through the sun.

I should be wary of my surroundings. Although this area is secluded, these creatures are more than capable of sniffing me out. My next goal is to find some sort of transportation. I'm hoping I can cop up a couple of gas cans. Vehicles are everywhere but gasoline only lasts so long.

8:30 am

I haven't stepped outside this house since my arrival. I didn't really have time to roam around outside due to the sun getting ready to set. If anything I have learned that the creatures are more likely to roam in the night. I'm still not sure why but they seem to hide out during the day. Perhaps they could be allergic to the sun?

I checked around the area surrounding the house. Nothing but debris and old useless junk. There was a small garden that had been tainted with weeds. Taking a closer look, bugs and other parasites have seem to gotten to them already. On the corner of the property, standing tall and mighty was an apple tree. I do not even dare take my chances in indulging in fruit. I can't ensure the quality but if I happen to find a packet of seeds I just might create my own little garden.

I took a trip to the barn which took about 15 minutes to walk to. The smell was horrid. The door was propped open and I just slid right in. There were just rows upon rows of sheep. Not only had the animals died from neglect and beginning to rot but the remainder of flesh had been eaten. I can hear a sort of groan. Turns out it was just one of the creatures. As soon as my eyes captured what I was seeing the fucking thing ambushed me. My dumbness did not bring any means of protection so the only thing I could do was retreat back. It's unlikely that you find a lone creature, they like to travel in groups. I've seen as many as 20 at once, packed into a gas station on the side of the road as I drove by on my way here. So lesson learned, always carry a weapon.
