His name is Jack or John, I don't remember, not that it is of any major importance. His name described his eternally monotonous personality. Even monotonous is a fancy word for boring, maybe he does not even deserve that word. Every day started as the previous one. The alarm is always set on 7:45 till it was passed on his inner brain and waking up automatically every morning without exceptions, the same boring plain oatmeal breakfast every morning and then off to his dead end job. Let's pause here a little, at his job. By being eternally boring without any "sorry for being a little late" and by being The Bosse's pet he managed to get a "not exactly a promotion" but a little more power than his colleagues nonetheless. The contact of his boss was the first in the quite a few contacts he had. He was anointed by his boss to be his personal rat and snitch. Most of his colleagues were ratted by him in one way or another and his boss loved that. He used sometimes to do some overtime work over his usual 9-5. The few conversations he had with his colleagues only referred to the job, the only thing he was really interested and filled his tedious life. All he was talking and thinking about, even when he was at his house. Not that his house was by any means a cozy or a happy place like most of the people manage to make of their personal space, not a Sanctum Scriptorum for sure. How could that be a safe place for him or anyone. A few old but not vintage furniture a small bed barely containing him.So this Jack or John fellow went on living his lifeless life, without any interests or love apart from his snitchy little business and his job, That was pretty much his poor excuse of a life, an endless repetition. He never knew he had the chance to change.

Everyone deserves a chance to save his or her life. Even this Jack or John guy, As usual he returned from work at 5:14 exactly not a minute later or earlier. He felt good today after he managed to scold one of his colleagues or almost employees as he though, living this delusion of power. He took a good praise from his boss for his abilities. His house loveless and empty as always was waiting for him. Clothes folded quickly and a simple food was being prepared by him.

Abruptly there was a knock on the door. John or Jack was surprised, nobody knocks on his door, he was not like the silly girl next that her boyfriend visits her almost everyday. He opened the door. No one. He looked left, then right. Still no one.

-What the h...

He looked down. That's a first. There was a golden envelope with red calligraphic letters. It seemed pretty well made, not like the bills he received for his utilities. There was his name written, Good. We are going to learn his boring name.

TO MR JOHN GOWER

So his name is John, nice. He turned the envelope <<To be delivered exactly at 17:32>>. That was written there. He checked his clock. 17:33. On time. John opened the envelope. There was a golden piece of paper not just painted gold but made by thin piece of gold. It had the same red calligraphic letters.

Mr John Gower you have a chance to change everything once and for all. If you take you chances meet us where you wanted to be. Bring your attached coin.

John looked at the envelope. There was a gold coin there with his face engraved on the one side and a building on the other. He had seen that building before. He was sure of that. He closed the door and returned to his small living room. Sat on the old sofa and tried to think. Where he should be... Memories. Distant Memories. He went back to his younger days almost 20 years ago when he was at his first year at the university. He did not actually want that but who knows. The world was ahead for him at that point. The university that was the building on the coin. He had to be there. He remembered his parents, always pushing towards a certain career path they thought he was suitable for. He fell asleep or at least he tried to. Not an easy thing to do if you have worries. One of his colleagues once said to him the same thing as an excuse of being late. Excuses... I do not believe them, neither did the boss. The hour grew late, and sleep eluded him. Finally he slept around 2:00 am.
