Four's Pov

If only I could punch Peter in the face right now. My blood boils with anger but I don't try to conceal it. I walk into my first period class, just barely before the bell. I look around and realize that Tris is in this class. We really need to have a talk, because I have a lot of explaining to do on my part.

The whole period seems like a blur to me. I didn't pay attention to a single word and was only thinking about what I was going to say to Tris. When the bell rings, I see Tris rush out into the classroom trying to shrink herself so she goes unnoticed like a single star shining amongst billions of others. Nothing stands out. On my way out, Zeke gives me a friendly punch.

"Hey Four, what prank should we pull on Tris today?"

If I come across over protective then he'll know something is up, and I am not ready for a shitload of questions. I have to at least say something so that he and the others stop being so cruel to Tris.

"What makes you think bullying others is okay?" With that answer, I walk away.

The rest of the day is uneventful, until I walk out of the school. What crosses my eyes infuriates me. Christina, Shauna, and Lynn are cornering Tris shooting her down with words.

"Why don't you go back to wherever you came from? I'm sure they'd love to have a freak come back to them." Lynn says.

Instinctively, I make my over to them.

"Hey Four! Came to join the fun?" Christina says

I give her a questioning look, and notice that Tris is avoiding eye contact with me.

"What's the point of bullying Tris? Honestly, why don't you guys go do something better than this." These words just flow out of my mouth and I don't regret saying them.

"Oh. It's just amusing to see her be made fun of." Lynn retorts.

"So that makes it ok to bully someone? No it doesn't."

"Wow. Didn't know some teasing to someone you didn't know could set you off." Christina says as she, Lynn, and Shauna walk away.

"Thanks. A lot." Tris shyly says, whilst still avoiding my eyes.

"Anytime. Look, it's your choice but if you want, meet me at the coffee shop so we can talk." I say. Part of me thinks she will come, but this effort is probably pointless.

"Okay. When do you want to go?"

Her answer surprises me, but I have to take my opportunities when I can.

"What about now? I'll drive you."

Tris finally makes eye contact. "Sure. Let's go."

Tris and I order our coffees, and take a seat.

"You like black coffee? That's disgusting." Tris says.

"I for one, very much enjoy black coffee and not coffee with a whole bunch of sugar and milk." I say humorously.

Tris sticks her straw in my coffee and takes a sip. She scrunches her nose and says,

"Yup. Disgusting."

I remember how she used to scrunch her nose, whether she ate something she didn't like or if I made some stupid remark. It's something she did so often that I got used to the gesture but now that she seems so distant and depressed, it's as if she surprised herself with that gesture.
