I lifted the blade up, staring along its glinting edge. It shone ivory in the moonlight, and the handle shone a radiant Royal Blue. It was beautiful.
As I held onto it, I noticed the weight was perfect: not too heavy, not too light.
The power of the blade coursed through my veins, and at that moment, I knew.
This was the blade that belonged to me.
I swung it in an arch, watching the light bounce off of it, leaving a trail in the air. It seemed to slice through the sky. It was perfect.
Suddenly, there was a noise behind me, like crunching gravel. The sound made me shiver. I spun. Behind me stood a tall man in a long jacket that hung above his boots. He wore a dark pair of oval sunglasses that hid his eyes. His black hair hung in his face, and the stubble on his chin made him look rogue. I did not recognize him.
He held out his white hand. I noticed that his hand was so pale, it was almost transparent.
"Come with me. I can save you."
He had a thick Russian accent. Who was this man? I reached out my hand, my instincts telling me to trust him. Slowly, I reached forwards, until our fingers touched.
I jolted awake. Frantically, I looked around the room. I wasn't around the strange field in which my dream took place. But it felt so real....
"You move a lot when you sleep."
I smiled up at Brook, who sat at the table playing Scrabble with Juliette.
"I.... it's just something I have always done." I didn't want to tell her about the dream I had been having. It seemed to always reoccur.
She rolled her eyes playfully, "You should really get that checked out. That can't be healthy."
I scoffed, "Shouldn't you guys be heading home?"
Juliette shrugged, "Vergil said to stay here and keep an eye on you. That's what we are gonna do."
I sighed and stood, walking to the fridge. I pulled out a pitcher of blood and drank deeply. The energy seeped back into my veins, and soon I found myself back in the living room.
"Scrabble? Who is winning?"
Juliette picked up the notepad they were keeping score on, "I am. By like, ten points."
Brook sneered, "Not for long. W-E-A-T-H-E-R. I do believe that is thirteen points. Plus, I hit the 'Double Word Score' box, so that makes twenty-six points. Boom."
Juliette growled angrily, and added onto Brook's score. Brook's sneer was proud.
I sighed with boredom, pulling my phone from my pocket. I debated whether or not I wanted to watch the awesome Anime called Code Geass, or whethe I wanted to go back to sleep. Maybe then I could decipher that dream...
My phone buzzed in my hand as Dante's name flashed across my phone screen. I sighed. This was the third time he had called me this week because he wanted me to tell Vergil what he was finding out. I didn't want to do this. He needed to do it himself. After all, Vergil was his brother.
I pressed ignore, and pocketed my phone. Dante would get the hint sometime. He was like an Ex.... except he wasn't my ex....
My phone buzzed again in my hand. For a moment I felt annoyance bubble within me and I figured it would be Dante. But to my relief, it was Vergil.
"Yes, Vergil?"
"Did Dante try calling you?"
"Uh-huh. I ignored it. He needs to talk to you himself."
"Hmm. Well maybe he should at least try to contact me every once in a while. I am the reason why he is still alive. I am the reason he knows what and who he is. He should he more appreciative."
"Vergil..." I sighed, "Lay off a bit. He believes in you a lot, he is just afraid that you are going to grab for more power."
He never missed a beat. "Do you think I will? Do you think I am a traitor?"
I bit my lip as the anger in his voice lashed out at me, "No, Vergil. And you know that. Stop accusing me like this. You know I have full faith in you. At least trust me, will you?"
He sighed with exhaustion, "I'm sorry. Forgive me I am exhausted. I haven't slept properly for the last week, and I have been short with you."
I relaxed a bit, "I understand, Vergil. When will you be home?"
"Hopefully tonight. The Order has a lot to do if we are to be defending that Hell Gate. We also need to survey other areas to make sure the Demons aren't breaking through."
"Hey, that's not too bad."
He scoffed, "That's easier said than done, Cas."
"I know. I don't want to, but I'll let you go so you can do more demon hunting stuff. I'll go watch more Code Geass."
Vergil chuckled, "You do that, love. I'll talk to you later."
I ended the call, furrowing my brow at the voicemail symbol on the top of my menu screen.
It was Dante.
He sounded breathless, as if he had been running. "Cassi.... Come to the ATM by the market. There is something you need to see."
That was it? No explaination? I grunted at it, and looked up at Brook, "I'm going out."
She and Juliette snapped their heads up, "No you aren't. Vergil said to keep you here."
I rolled my eyes, "Relax, I am meeting with Dante."
But none of us would have predicted what I was about to see.
