"Is my butt showing?" Keisha asked—turning at her back to show me her ass.
I rolled my eyes. "Malamang, naka one piece ka." I said and stretched in my position. I was also wearing a black one piece swimsuit because we have a swimming class and I was so nervous because I had a really big fear of deep water, and I don't know how to swim.
I laughed at myself. Tignan mo 'tong tangang 'to, nag tourism pero may fear of heights at hindi alam lumangoy.
"Everyone, get ready!" The instructor yelled, followed by the noise of the whistle as he blew on it.
I bit my lower lip and took a deep breath to cheer myself up.
"Don't know how to swim?" I heard Mika ask. I didn't notice she was already standing by my side.
I looked at her and chewed on my lower lip while nodding because my heart was pounding. Bakit ba kasi hindi muna kami turuan? Akala ko ba swimming lesson? Bakit kailangan agad naming makipag unahan sa isa't isa para makarating sa dulo ng pool?
She clicked her tongue. "You'll be competing with Loreen. She's a great swimmer." She shrugged, and it made me more freaking nervous. I wanna pass out to be excused.
I looked at Loreen who was doing stretches and couldn't help but to be amazed by her dahil ano bang bagay ang hindi niya kayang gawin? Because she's really good at everything! And she's doing it with full effort to make sure she'll win.
"Ms. Myui, Ms. Corales. Your turn." The instructor announced, and the two went to the end of the pool—ready to jump once the whistle blew.
They both wore their goggles. The girl paired with Mika gave her a smile but she just stared at her blankly.
The whistle blew and water splashed because they both dove in.
"Go, mom!" Keisha cheered—jumping up and down.
"Go faster, Mika." Loreen frustratedly murmured like she was the one who was competing, and Mika must've heard her because she swam faster. And in just a blink of an eye, she was already at the end of the pool while her chest was going up and down to catch some air.
She shook her head from left to right—swooshing her drench hair to remove the excess water while my mouth hung open because she looked so hot.
"That's my mother!" Keisha proudly exclaimed, and it made me go back to my situation.
My hands trembled as my heart pounds aggressively to my chest due to anxiety.
I looked around and took a deep shaky breath when I caught the instructor's eyes after he looked at Loreen. "Ms. Balmer, Ms. Lopez." He nodded his head to signal us to get ready.
My legs were wobbling but I still walked toward the end of the pool.
Loreen and I stood a meter away from each other but none of us spoke because obviously, she doesn't wish good luck for her competitors and I'm not delusional enough to say good luck to her because it will sound like I was challenging her. Mahirap pa naman hamunin ang babaeng 'to dahil sure na ipapalamon niya sayo 'yong kayabangan mo.
"Go!"
The whistle blew and I panicked because I was too preoccupied with my own thoughts! Tumingin-tingin pa ako sa paligid pero ang nakita ko lang ay 'yong mukha ni Keisha na parang tangang-tanga na siya kung anong ginagawa ko at si Wren na kadarating lang pero todo na ang cheer kay Loreen. When I turned my gaze back to the pool, she had already swam half it. I know that I will never win against her but if I didn't swim, wala akong grade! So with no choice left, I closed my eyes and jumped.
