"Hi, good morning." I greeted Ume when I came across her in the kitchen.
It was still early in the morning and the sun wasn't completely up but I was already awake because I wanted to enjoy the day.
It's been a month since the last trial and everything was going well. I was happy, smiling, and laughing a lot, and I want that to continue.
"Good morning, Sandra." She smiled at me even though she was shocked that I was here because I came out of the dark.
I smiled at her too. I didn't know that she knew my name so it warmed my heart that she actually knew.
"Can I help you with that?" I asked because she was cooking alone and it looked so sad kahit na mukhang sanay na siya.
"Sure." She said as she nodded and handed me a big wooden spoon that I didn't know what to call.
"I don't know how to cook, Ume."
She laughed too. "No problem. I'll teach you."
My eyes grew big and lit up from what she'd said. "Really?"
She nodded while smiling. "Yes, come here."
I quickly obeyed and I looked like a child learning how to ride a bike for the first time. I was anxious yet so excited.
Ume stood behind me to wear an apron on me and then she tied it securely on my back.
"What are we gonna cook?" I asked, and I couldn't take off the smile on my face.
I've never been close to any of the maids before except for Isabella because she was really nice and sweet so having Ume right now lightens my heart.
"I'll teach you how to peel vegetables first. Or you already knew that?"
"I don't." I chuckled.
"It's easy. I'll teach you all." She went to the sink so I followed her, and then she tossed me a vegetable.
"This is a potato, right?" I asked as I stared at it.
Ume nodded her head. "It is."
She started to teach me how to peel it while I was being embarrassed of myself because she might be thinking of how stupid I am for not being sure of a basic vegetable, even though I was sure she wasn't thinking that because she was nice.
"Be careful of that." She said after handling me a knife.
I carefully took it and copied what she was doing but it slipped and blood came out of my finger when the sharp part landed there.
Kasasabi niya palang na mag iingat ako pero wala pang isang minuto ay pumalpak na ako.
"Aw." I winced and quickly put down the knife to check on my wounded finger but then panicked when I saw the mess I created. "I-I'm sorry...I w-wil--" My heart was pounding against my chest in fear and nervousness as I gathered every single mess with my shaking hands but stopped because a hand held mine.
I closed my eyes and waited for an impact on my face and a painful tug on my hair but nothing came so I slowly opened my eyes.
"Why you apologizing? It's fine, not your fault." Ume's soft voice filled the room.
I blinked my eyes. "You're not... you're not gonna hurt me?" I whispered.
Her face tensioned and her lips parted a little. "No. Why am I gonna do that?"
