Rules rules rules. What you can wear, what you can’t wear. Where to step what to do, blah blah blah.
Throw out the rules and everything that tells you what to do, and you will find freedom. Parkour/ Freerunning is freedom.
Parkour- The fastest way from point A to B, using only the human body and surroundings.
Freerunning- The most creative way to move from point A to B, using only the human body and surroundings.
PKFR- The fastest and most efficient and creative way to move from point A to B, using only the human body and surroundings.
The art of PKFR can be mastered, with time, dedication and a true desire to succeed and accomplish your goals. The human body has much more potential than many of us realize.
Walking, running and playing most sports we do use muscle, hell we use muscle to eat and even smile. In everyday life we use muscle, mentality and basic fitness. But for PKFR the athlete must be at their absolute best physically and mentally.
Football is running and tackling, but you have pads that are specifically made for crushing and other movements that will occur when playing football. Yes in all sports you can find a worse case scenario usually death or serious injury. But in PKFR it is much easier to find.
For exampleà a roll.
You’d think its easy and would be safe. You might think a roll is dumb and unimportant, but in PKFR the roll is the most important move for transferring energy of downward force into forward energy which keeps you from feeling too much impact. In parkour even the small unimportant seeming moves can become extremely useful in the present and future. The roll will save your joints.
When landing the idea is to spread the impact and keep your momentum or speed, if done correctly the impact will spread all through your body and your muscles should be taking the impact not your bones and organs. Don’t get me wrong, the impact will take a toll roll or not, but without rolling you will feel that toll a lot sooner.
The basics of a roll is to spread the impact of landing and use that energy to move forward. When you land immediately roll forward over your shoulder to the opposite hip. Make sure NOT to roll over your head, the ground should draw a line from your shoulder to the opposite hip, such as your right shoulder to your left hip. As you come around place your feet on the ground and push off to continue running. You can also place your hands down for balance. Don’t over think, or you will seem worried.
The roll is just one of the basics, make sure to practice them so you can do them automatically without thinking about it too much so you can focus more on the main tricks later.
