The wind swept over his bony skull, pulling him towards the crowd. The mayor had some 'new' announcements. Kylo knew there was nothing new about it. The same repeat as last year, and the year after last. Maybe this year will be different. It had to be.
"Everyone gather around. We must plan for next year's hallows eve. This year was spectacular, but we need to start planning for next year. Any ideas may be brought forth now." The Mayor asked innocently. Kylo sighed and leaned against a brick wall. All of this was pointless. This year was fine, the same scares and ghouls making their appearance, but it was the same. They would do the same thing as last year, same motive, same idea. That became even more relevant when the townsfolk voiced their ideas.
"More scares"
"The ghosts and Witches ride at dawn!"
"The children will be so afraid this year."
The mayor stood up in his car, noting down some of the things the townsfolk were yelling into the crowd. From Vampires, ghouls, witches and any nightmare you could think of, and yet they were some of the nicest beings you could meet in this same, untouched town.
"What would the Pumpkin King think of these gracious ideas?" Kylo stood straight and looked around, the townsfolk eager to hear his thoughts. He was truly no one special, but the people of Halloweentown seemed adamant for his approval. He appreciated the support, but he always thought he wasn't doing it for these people. He wasn't giving them what they wanted.
Kylo willed himself to move forward, bony white face scrunching into a smile "Yes, everyone's ideas are perfect. Next year was excellent, but we must start work again as soon as we can."
Everyone cheered, moving over to him and giving their thanks. Kylo moved back, slowly getting uncomfortable at the sudden contact. Thankfully, the Mayor still had some awards to give out, like every year.
The townsfolk moved away, turning their attention back to the mayor, giving Kylo the chance to step away. As he did, someone bumped into him, causing him to stumble but keep his composure. He went to help them up when he stopped, eye sockets growing wide.
He was beautiful. The man with short red hair made of yarn. Blue pale skin sewn together with thread. His uniform was all black, white stripes at the end of his sleeves, and his eyes, bright and green like the fog from the forest.
Kylo came back to himself, extending a bony hand out to help the man. He was suspicious at first, but soon grabbed Kylo's bony fingers with his own soft hand. He helped him up, the man dusting off his uniform to peak perfection. Kylo only continued to stare at him. After all these years, someone new, something different.
"I apologize, I wasn't paying attention......Your thoughts on next year's halloween, do you think it will be better than the previous?" The man asked, messing with a strand of his hair. Kylo willed his non-existent brain to function. "The apology is mine. And yes, I do believe this year will be our finest....I apologize I don't recall seeing you around town."
"I don't usually leave my home, but I wondered what the Pumpkin King might look like in person. He did not disappoint." The man said, smiling up at him. Kylo couldn't find the words. He wanted to know everything about him, needed to know what he loved. Before Kylo could ask his name, Dr. Hux came up to them, grabbing the man's hand and pulling him towards him.
"Armiatge, I told you to stay at the house. You do not want to bother the Pumpkin King on what should be his night off. Amazing work again sir. We must get home though, much to prepare for next year" Dr. Hux exclaimed, pulling Armiatge away from him. Armiatge went willingly, smiling back at Kylo before he turned with Dr. Hux and left.
