Chapter 26: Something New (1)

Raon called Cale and Ron urgently, his wings were flapping faster than usual as he giddily looked at the two of them.

"Human! The empress is awake!" Raon said excitedly.

"She is?" Cale's eyes widened. Ron turned around towards the stairs.

"I will prepare some light meal for her to consume," Ron said and left. Cale followed Raon towards the Empress' room.

Cale stood there for a few seconds, mind racing as he looked at the clos doors with anticipation and worry.

"Human hurry! We must check if the Empress is really okay!" Raon urged him and he finally held the doorknob and twisted it.

There was a small yelp followed by a thud when he opened the door. Cale immediately rushed to the other side of the bed and found Lady Pauline struggling to stand up.

"Lady Pauline!" Cale immediately kneeled beside her and gave her his arms to try to stand up.

"S-Sir Cale... I-I... How long was I unconscious?" The empress asked, Cale looked down to meet her gaze but was met with an unexpected view, he blinked twice before looking away swiftly.

"You were unconscious for more than a week. After the events inside the palace, we transferred you to the Black castle to get you a cure as soon as possible." Cale said, trying to speak as nonchalantly as possible.

He felt her shifted as they slowly stood up, small tremors from her arms and legs, he can feel it.

"Do you feel okay? Are you hurting somewhere?" Cale asked, concerned about her wellbeing, but was still not able to look straight at her.

"I...I feel out of breath... and my body... feels so weak," She said in a small voice. The Empress was too focused on her herself that she didn't notice Cale's demeanor. Cale decided to make her sit at the edge of the bed before putting his hands on her shoulder.

"I think... you should get proper clothing first... I will call Rosalyn to help you," Cale said looked at her face. His hands closed the robe together for her as his gaze met hers.

Her deep blue eyes were wide and her small mouth opened, and slowly, her face turned red as she hugged the robe closely to her body as soon as Cale let go.

"P-Please tell me you didn't see anything," The empress was so embarrassed her voice ended up in a whisper.

"I... *cough* I'll get Rosalyn now," Cale looked away and went out of the room. Cale couldn't look at the small dragon who was curiously looking at his way.

'That... she... is extremely beautiful...' He thought before getting Rosalyn to help the Empress get dressed.

When he came back, Ron already delivered her food and Rosalyn was helping her eat.

"You say that the three northern dragons are here? Are you sure it's them?" The empress was in a state of shock while she was looking over to Cale for answers.

"Indeed... but where did they go, Raon, do you know where they went?" Cale asked Raon who was outside the open door peeking inside.

"I don't know, after yesterday, they just went off, I will ask Goldie gramps first!" Raon said and quickly flew away, before Cale could talk to the empress, Raon came back and looked at the Empress from the same distance.

"Empress Pauline, I'm glad you're awake now! You scared us!" Raon said before flying away.

Cale looked at Lady Pauline and found her smiling although in pain. It seems the curse was still effective even in that long proximity.

"Eat first to regain some strength Lady Helena, we will nurse you back to health," Rosalyn said and watched the empress eat.

"We will meet Mary tomorrow morning, for now, properly rest up tonight and set your mind at ease," Cale said and The empress nodded her head.

"Thank you so much for saving me, Sir Cale, Miss Rosalyn," The empress was truly grateful for being alive after that horrible incident.

After that, they left the room and let the empress rest.

When the morning arrived the next day, Cale was woken up with Raon tapping his cheeks lightly.

"Human... human, The Empress was requesting something," Cale opened his eyes and looked at Raon's way before rubbing his face with both hands.

"Mhm... What is it?" Cale asked as he slowly sat up and stretched his body to wake himself up.

"She wanted to use her mana,"

Cale paused and looked at Raon's way.

"She was guided to the underground training hall by Ron after she ate breakfast," Raon said and watched Cale stood up from the bed and hurriedly changed his clothes to see the empress.

"We told her not to do it, we told her that her body was not ready yet, but she said she wanted to try at least once." Raon said, his tone was starting to feel frustrated and sad that made Cale nervous.

"Her blue mana... it was shooting out of her with black magic..." Raon looked down on his paws as Cale turned around and looked at his way with widened eyes.

"Where are they now?" Cale asked wearing his shoes before opening his door.

"They are still inside the training hall... The Empress... seemed to be in a state of shock," Raon said and flew next to Cale as they went down to the training hall.

When they arrived, Rosalyn, Ron, Choi Han and Beacrox were all there. They all looked at Cale's way as his eyes looked at the center of the training hall.

It was a mess, large, jagged chunks of ice seemed to shoot up from the ground, looking like terrifying teeth from far away, and the black areas of the ice were large and very visible.

In the middle of the training hall, it was covered with snow, blue and black specks gently falling down from the ceiling above.

"Cale... Lady Pauline has been there for more than an hour, her body is still recovering, but... she was being stubborn." Rosalyn said worriedly. Ron handed Cale a blanket before leaving with Beacrox and the others, saying that it's futile for them to stay there if the Empress won't follow their advice.

"Human, I will also go, the curse about inside her soul is still there, she might be in pain right now," Raon said before he too left the area.

Cale sighed, how... what does he need to do to console someone from such a tragedy that transpired?
