With her hand under her chin to support her head she let out another droned sigh while trying to mute out Mr. Dyus, he had this mono-tone voice that somehow always lulled her to sleep. Being the thinker she was, she had decided to take the liberty to just ignore him. Looking over towards the clock she couldn’t help but squeeze her eyes into a glare towards that cursed thing, it seemed that time loved to intimidate her. Making it feel like it’s been many minutes and when she looks to the clock she finds that’s it’s only be four minutes.
Opening her notebook she began to doodle, just something simple. It started out as a jellybean, and she lightly rubbed her abdomen now having the want for a jellybean. As she continued to doodle the jellybean began to have legs and arms. Then the jellybean now wore tap shoes, even held a cane and a top hat. While overlooking her little creation she heard someone clear their throat, so looking up she found Mr. Dyus looking straight at her with those beady little eyes.
“Ms. Euthiski?” He questioned while standing up straighter to look more serious, and while looking at him she began to notice that all eyes were on her.
“Yes?” She appealed wondering what it was that he wanted, but she already knew the answer.
“Go to the student services, they will take care of you.” His smile was filled with sarcasm and he turned around only to continue writing down notes on that veteran chalkboard, that board had to be at least centuries in years. Moving along on foot she was out of the room with her simple JanSport lavender colored backpack. Inside consisted of the normal tools for school, an accordion file organizer that held all of her papers, and maybe about five notebooks then her writing utensils. Most of her text books were in her locker and the classes rarely used the books either way.
“May I help you?” A women questioned snapping her out of her thoughts, and while looking around she found that she had walked into Student Services. The room was rather bland and somewhere she wouldn’t want to be at for long.
“Yeah, I was sent here by Mr. Dyus.” Echo yawned unintentionally, and so the woman gazed at her for a moment as if scrutinizing her. She found it rather uncomfortable when she got that look, the look everyone had when they saw her eyes. The thing was that Echo had Heterochromia; when you have two different eye colors. Echo’s left eye was a deep blue and the right was a honey colored hazel.
“Well then take a seat, we’ll speak with you in a minute.” She still seemed to stare at her and that slightly irritated her but Echo sat down nonetheless. While sitting there she began just to tap her feet on the tiled floors for amusement. The room was incredibly bland, it was no wonder why she mostly avoided this room. Each passing minute she grew even more bored, and soon it was her turn to be ‘talked’ to. Standing up calmly she walked over to the room that she was shown to. When she entered she stopped seeing a woman there looking rather unhappy. Echo wondered if it was because of all the people she had to speak with.
“Ah, yes.” The woman huffed and looked at her clipboard, “Echo Euthiski, I’ve never seen you here before. So what brings you here?” I looked to see her nametag, her name was Mrs. Laute.
“I was doodling.” Echo simply replied while setting her bag down on the table Mrs. Laute was sitting at and took a seat of her own.
“ . . .Doodling . . .” She took off her glasses seeming to be contemplating about something Echo couldn’t understand, “Well I guess Mr. Dyus has been quite strict these past few months.”
“ . . .” Echo didn’t respond while staying quiet wondering is she was being talked to and only continued to listen to Mrs. Laute ramble continuously, there wasn’t much Echo couldn’t catch since Mrs. Laute was mumbling so low that Echo couldn’t even understand what she was saying. Looking up Mrs. Laute caught the confused expression Echo had then seemed to smile slightly.
“Well, I guess I’ll just have you just stay after school for ten minutes in Mr. Dyus’ room.” Mrs. Laute wrote something down, it looked to be a pink slip but after grasping the paper Echo saw it was a pass, “Now go along to third hour.”
“Thank you.” She spoke softly and noticed that Mrs. Laute didn’t have any reaction to her eyes, or was it because she took off her glasses that she couldn’t really tell the difference of any form. Echo heard her converse against the floor with each step she took, for today it was quite eventful for once. Only she was sure that her brother’s weren’t going to be happy to know that she got a small detention. Rolling her eyes she continued up the steps and noticed the echo her footsteps made, it added noise to the area she was in since it was so quiet. While opening the door Echo blinked seeing the oddly colored lockers for probably over the billionth time being here for all four years.
Continuing her journey she walked down another hall to reach the room that she needed, this class was Graphic Arts. A class she supposed she enjoyed since she could do things on the computer. Mr. Lindberg could be a snazzy teacher, which Echo found enjoyable since most of the teachers consisted of either ’out-of-date’ teachers or just rude teachers.
“Hey Echo.” A voice entered her ears so she looked around to see Mr. Lindberg waving over to her. Echo walked over to him and handed him the piece of paper, “Thank you.” He lightly sang and waved her off so she wandered over to her computer only to notice that her mouse was gone. While staring at the empty spot where her mouse usually was she sighed in defeat. She was too tired to even get a new one so she simply sat down while setting her bag on the floor and pulled out her iPod for some entertainment. Flipping through the song list she noticed movement from the corner of her eye so she looked over in that direction to see someone walk into the room, it was just another teacher. Echo decided to ignore the rest of the sounds while playing her music to drown out her thoughts of what had happened today.
Echo’s eyes were closed for a blissful moment but they were abruptly opened when she looked over to the clock to see that there were only two minutes left of class. Echo then stood up only to stretch from sitting in one spot for so long, and grabbing her bag she made her way to the door to wait for the bell to ring. Once the bell had rung she yawned while walking down the hall to go past the many rows of lockers and through the crowd of people who were clustered all around. Echo found it quite annoying that they would just stand there, but ignoring them she continued down the stairs to the commons. The lunch room was a lonely place since no one ever sat next to her, and with a sigh she sat down while pulling out a simple case that was her lunch for the day. Echo had cooked soba noodles the night before so that she would have something decent to eat at lunch.
Glancing around the Commons she only rolled her eyes to see some of the couples cuddling close to each other, and the groups chatted amongst themselves. She wondered why she was always neglected, was it just because of her eyes? Echo sighed while closing her eyes finding that quite annoying, she was no different than half of the people here, only that was an understatement at some points. Looking around once more she pulled out her chopsticks then began to eat her soba noodles in peace, the only good thing about eating alone was the quiet. No one interrupting you from eating so you have to reply, that was the only positive thing she could think about this situation.
