One year ago
It was a casual day in my small hometown in central West Virginia. It was early Spring, March, and the weather was the most perfect I had ever seen it. The sun was softly glowing, the birds were chirping and the grass had a slight dew on it. It wasn't too cold or too warm, it was simply perfect. My shiny new convertible was sparkling and it felt like everything in my life was right. My parents were finally getting along, and I was in my senior year. I was decently popular and was finishing up my last season of basketball. The only thing I didn't have was a girl on my shoulder, but the time would come.
When I pulled up to the school I saw my teammates and best friends surrounding Jackson's blue truck that was cleaned to perfection. He loved that truck and they were all smiling and laughing. They waved when they saw me pull in next to them. I grabbed my bag and got out, slamming the car door shut. "Hey guys, lets do this. Were so close to being down!" I said with cheerfulness.
"I can't believe senior year is almost over. Basketball is almost over. Our lives are almost beginning." Jackson said with a slight frown to his olive skin.
Among him my other two teammates Allen and Spencer also frowned slightly. We had been best friends for sixteen years. It was going to be hard to do this without them. We met in daycare at two years old. We've always had each others backs and never gave up on each other.
"Hey sexy." I hear a light voice say. I look over and see a pair of small hands with pink nail polish upon them. It was Jackson's girlfriend Amy, they had been together for six months now and were as close as ever.
"Hey beautiful." Jackson turned around and gave her a small kiss. She smiled at him in awe. It made me sick to see how in love they were, knowing I've never had that. All I've had is hookups, and one-night stands. Girls don't tend to see me for more than a muscular jock.
"Hey Amy, how's it going?" I said politely.
"Ugh it's going great, but I have to go show this new girl around. Who transfers in March of their senior year?" She says with a slight groan. Her forehead wrinkled in frustration.
"Hey, be nice. She probably needs a friend." Jackson crossed his arms at her clearly meaning what he said.
"You know I will babe. I gotta go. I love you." She says planting another kiss on his cheek.
She waves at all of us and turns around her long blonde hair swaying as she walks away. The bell rings and we know it's time to get going. We all say our goodbyes and go our separate ways. I made my way to my first period, history. I sit in my seat in the back and cross my arms. This was easily my least favorite class. I watched as our teacher, Mrs. Jones makes her way into the classroom carrying a cup presumably full of coffee. She has to have her coffee or she just won't show up for class. She's definitely different.
"Alright class it's time to finish up our lesson from last week. Who can tell me what branch of the government deals with-" She never finishes that sentence as another voice interupts her.
"I am so sorry to interrupt Mrs. Jones but you have a new student. Her name is Alyssa Reid." Amy says.
I instantly look up and see the most beautiful girl I had ever laid eyes on. She had the most sky blue eyes, black hair that hung down her waist, slim arms that carried a few books, and she had the prettiest nervous smile. She makes eye contact with me and her smile drops. She looks back at Mrs. Jones.
"Well welcome to my classroom dear. Why don't you take that seat by Kyle in the back. The brunette wearing the denim jeans?" Mrs Jones states.
Alyssa gives her a slight nod and walks quietly back to the seat. Amy gives the class a wave and heads out the door. Alyssa sets her things down, sits down, and looks straight ahead. She was wearing a black hoodie and black yoga pants that flared out at the bottom. Even in those clothes she looked stunning. I couldn't help but wonder how she wasn't hot in that attire. I stared at her the whole class taking in every feature. Her skin was the lightest shade of cream, her eyebrows squinted a lot when she was deeply listening to Mrs. Jones, and her pink lips stayed slightly open when she breathed.
She wouldn't make eye contact with me even though I knew she could feel my eyes on her. I even dropped my pencil and picked it up to see if I could catch her looking at me. It didn't work. She was someone I wanted to get to know. She was who I could see myself with. I wanted Alyssa Reid and I was willing to do whatever it took to get her.
If only I knew then what I know now.....
