I was utterly stunned when I discovered that Mr. Richard was the mastermind behind the mystery. I couldn't fathom why he would task us with the mission while being the main person we were meant to investigate. Quickly grabbing my phone, I was joined by Ms. Cameliona and Ms. Theshi.
I recounted everything, and Ms. Theshi suggested, "I believe he's the one who killed the elderly."
Ms. Cameliona countered, "I don't think so. Why would he ask us to handle the case?"
Nevertheless, considering Ms. Theshi's intelligence and inspiration to me, I decided to call Mr. Richard to meet us, covertly instructing the local agents not to reveal my intentions.
When he arrived, he appeared startled, his eyes locking with Lysander's.
He promptly sat down and admitted, "I know you're aware of the truth. Tell me what I should say."
I confronted him, saying, "Yes, sir, why did you ask us to investigate when you're the killer?"
His eyes widened, and he pleaded, "No, let me explain first. When Lysander accused Jezebel of Prince's murder, I was incensed, given how much Prince had helped me. I felt indebted and needed to repay him. During Lysander's absence, I approached Madame Isabelle. At first, she ignored me, but soon she broke down, revealing her pregnancy. I immediately asked Ariana to take the baby, as Isabelle was in danger from Jezebel, who could harm the next generation. I sent Isabelle to a medical center for safety and asked Ariana to claim Serena as her daughter, which she accepted wholeheartedly. Two years ago, I was the head of the city's detective and criminal cases. Several complaints emerged about missing elderly people. After an investigation, I discovered that it was Jezebel responsible for these killings. Unable to convict her, I instructed other officers to eliminate her. Her rage against Isabelle led her to avenge the old people's deaths. Isabelle is unable to appear, fearing for her daughter's safety, which prompted me to initiate the mission."
I was dumbstruck, unable to utter a word. We were all shaken, and I felt this was just the beginning. "I had no idea you went through all that, sir. I assure you we will apprehend the unknown criminal," I finally managed to say.
Suddenly, a call from the investigation department informed me of an elderly woman's death near an old building. The news left me on the verge of fainting, as they disclosed finding a strand of very long, shiny brown hair at the crime scene, suggesting a 90 percent likelihood that the killer was a woman.
Sharing the news with everyone, they were completely taken aback.
Mr. Richard remarked, "I think she's still alive."
