I squirmed in my seat as Lucy stared at me. Or should I say stared through me? Her eyes were glazed over and she had a blank expression. It feels so weird to be on the receiving end of that stare even though you know the person is just lost in thought. But I was sure that her insides were anything but calm after hearing whatever I had to tell her.
"You...have put me at a loss for words. Why exactly am I hearing of this now?"
"I honestly didn't want to think about it. And I was wonderful until he had to show up and drop such a bomb on me."
"Let me just look him up", she googled PrimoCapo CEO. There was nothing much on their official website. But the tabloids. It seemed like there were sections reserved just for him in all their monthlies. Rumours about the various women in his life, hundreds of paparazzi pictures supporting the same, articles on his 'panty-dropping good looks', 'oozing charisma', 'Irresistible manhood'??
What even were these journalists thinking? Ugh, all of it made me puke.
He was a well-known hotelier in Asia, Europe and the Middle East. It makes sense why his name wasn't so popular around here. But the hotels were popular. They were all one of a kind. I knew the Architects. I just didn't know who the hotel belonged to.
He still had a long way to go before he could be considered well established but his looks accelerated the process. Oh would you look at that, he was popular on social media too.
Is there anything this guy doesn't do?
"It's official. We're signing the contract with PrimoCapo."
"Why? Shouldn't you be more concerned about my feelings? What if I can't bring in good designs and mess it up because he's involved?"
"Are you daft? First of all this opportunity is fantastic. Secondly, you are going to work with THAT", she said pointing to the screen. "Ugh, what I wouldn't give to have someone like him come after me. I'd be begging him to take me. Worst case scenario, jump in bed with him and get closure."
"Yeah, your last point was helpful. Best way to get over someone? Jump in bed with them. You deserve to be the relationship coach the world has never seen", I gave her a sarcastic smile.
"It's time someone realised my true potential. So when will he come to sign the contract?"
"Since I haven't updated all week, he might show up at the office tomorrow and make a scene."
"Can't wait to meet my brother-in-law."
"Can you shut up? I'd rather lick a monkey's ass than get involved with him ever again."
"You're a damn bore. Maybe it's because you've lived such a dramatic life that it has sucked out all the fun in you. I mean I don't know anyone whose only love is working. You'd marry your company if it was legal."
"I'm glad you have such a stellar impression about me. Anyway, this conversation is over. I'm making lunch. You'll stay?"
"I prefer my cooking, but for today I love yours because I don't have to put effort."
"You make me question my friendship with you every single day."
"It's true love. Go, cook woman, I'm waiting", she said, making herself comfortable on my couch and shooing me away with her hand. Why do people think I'm the dramatic one?
