Christine Bronte needs to win. She can't let Amber Lee have the Arcane Covenant, which is a scroll that holds the secrets of eternal youth. Only two people know of its existing, Christine knows it as the family heirloom her grandfather leaves her and Amber knows because she used to be a friend, well, kind of. When grandpa passes away, he says that the covenant will choose someone who is young at heart to be its master, and gives Christine the map to the Island of Crows where the Covenant is. And now that map is with Amber because Christine got drunk one night and spill the beans on the Covenant to some random guy, and that guy asks way too many questions, all captured on Christine's cell phone which is tapped by Amber. Stupidly Christine keeps the map in a swear jar besides her bed which becomes easy target.
The night that the map got stolen, Christine finds out she has cancer. Stage 3 leukemia. Clock is ticking for her to find the covenant. She only knows Amber because they were friends in high school, and now she's on her security camera taking away the only thing that will keeps her alive. They were not even BFFs, just two friends in a group of friends, but damn that bitch Amber is a snake.
Amber has always found Christine a bit childish. She's always the one making the decisions, taking the shots without a question and betting all her lunch money on some boy wager. But Amber likes her because she is fun and candid. She never gives her much trouble and always tries to help people. Amber appreciates that kindness and tries to reciprocate while they were friends. But things begin to sour between them when they both have their eyes on the same boy, Tom. Let's just say in the end Tom ended up with Christine but later cheated and the couple splits unhappily and Amber was in too deep into university application to care by that time. Amber has Christine tapped because she can, she literally wants nothing but gossip about their relationship when she wired her phone but instead she finds Christine's heart to heart sessions with grandpa. She didn't want the Arcane Covenant for its use as much as for payback for what Christine did with Tom. Somehow she feels the relationship was a betrayal of their friendship.
Christine broke into Amber's house at midnight.
Now Christine has Amber at gun point.
Amber is fast asleep.
Map is nowhere to be seen.
Christine breathes in deep, and pull the trigger on Amber's leg.
Blood splatters everywhere and Amber is shocked awake, she doubles over in pain and feels the cold mouth of a gun besides her temple.
"Tell me where the map is and you may live." Christine said calmly.
Amber's throat is super dry. She croaked "It's in the basement." "Lead me to the basement now." Amber stood up shakily, her leg bleeding profusely, and then she fainted.
