TRIGGER WARNING: Mentions of suicide, jumping

Izuku's POV
Ow. That villain was brutal. I need somewhere safe to apply first-aid to my wounds. The heroes might be on my trail. Seeing that my base was too far, I rushed to the only other safe place I knew.

"Izuku, why do you keep on getting hurt." Hitoshi deadpanned. It wasn't a question, it was a statement.

"Well don't blame me, blame the villain!" I joked sarcastically. Hitoshi rolled his eyes as he helped me treat my wounds. My mind flashed back to when I first met Hitoshi. I think we were both 12 then.

-Flashback brought to you by Yami yelling at the black bulls to stop breaking stuff and then breaking the wall himself-

3rd person POV
It was a peaceful night, Kurai couldn't hear any fights or screams. Kurai sat on top of a rooftop, his legs dangling.

Kurai saw a purple-haired boy on the very edge of a roof. Standing up, he glanced over in the direction of the boy. His eyes widened, a minor shouldn't be on a rooftop at this hour.

Kurai started running across the rooftops, having an idea of what this was. He ran forward as the boy took a step forward, plunging down...

Shinsou's POV
I felt exhilarated. Everything was going to end. The abuse from my parents, the bullying from my peers, my villainous quirk and life. Everything was ending, and it felt like I was flying as I free-falled down the building.

The feeling of freedom and excitement was short-lived, though. I felt arms wrap around me, and I (along with the stranger behind me) was jerked up. The two of us tumbled back onto the roof. I tried desperately to get him off me, panicking. (A/N: After Izuku jumped down after Shinsou, he threw a grappling hook behind him and let it function like a mini-bungee jumping rope. Then they were bounced up when the rope was taut. The same concept as a slingshot, but vertical.)

"Get off me!! Why'd you do this?! Why would you save me?!"

"Wait, stop struggling! I'm here to help..." The stranger's voice came back. He sounded like a man, about 20-30. I didn't listen, and started wriggling while the stranger elbow-locked me.

"Calm down—" I felt my hand knock against something metal, dislodging it. "Oh crap." The stranger's voice changed completely. He sounded... like a boy my age? My eyes widening, I stopped struggling for a second as I tried to turn around at the stranger.

Izuku's POV
Crap. My mask and voice changer got knocked off. Given that I just fought a villain and my mask was loosened from the scuffle, the purple-haired boy managed to knock it off my face. The boy stopped struggling from the shock of my voice changing, and turned around.

"...Kurai?" The boy looked at my vigilante clothes, then at my face. Oh no. This was bad, really bad.

"..."

Shinsou's POV
The famous vigilante, Kurai, was the one who saved me. And I knocked off his mask. And he's the same age as me. The shock was almost too much to process.

"You're... really Kurai..?" I tentatively asked, totally unsure whether I was hallucinating from the jump or this was real. I looked at the boy in front of me, a teen who looked the same age as me, with messy green hair and piercing emerald eyes.

The kid in front of me sighed. "Okay, I guess there's no point in lying... Yes, I'm Kurai."

Izuku's POV
The purple haired boy finally calmed down, and I let go of him. I have no idea if he calmed down from the shock of my identity, but at least he's not trying to kill himself right now.

"Why would you stop me..?" The boy's voice is empty, hollow.

"I want to hear you out. Why did you jump? You can tell me anything. You don't need to bottle up your feelings." I hoped that he wouldn't want to die after he told me his problems. I wanted to help him.

Shinsou's POV
"If I tell you, will you let me die?" I asked wearily. I didn't want to live anymore, I didn't want to return to the abuse and bullying. Seeing the green-haired vigilante nod, I started talking.

"I'm constantly abused by my parents. My classmates and peers bully me. My Quirk is villainous." I explain, too annoyed and tired to explain further.

"What's your Quirk?" Kurai asked. He didn't seem to have bad intentions, but after hearing my Quirk, he would definitely hate me. It didn't matter who. Whoever knew my Quirk would torment me.

"Brainwashing." I was reluctant to share. "My Quirk makes it so that if someone responds to me, I can choose to control them."

The silence that happened after was painful. I knew this would happen—

"I don't see why people antagonise your Quirk."

I looked up at the greenette, shocked.

"Your Quirk is perfectly suited for hero work! You could control villains to turn themselves in, and you'd be one of the only heroes who could control a hostage situation effectively without either side being harmed. It's a great Quirk."

My eyes begin to water. It's the first time somebody said something positive about my Quirk. That I can become a hero.

"Come on, let's get down from the roof." Kurai holds his hand out to me.

"What's your name?" I blurt out.

"Midoriya. Izuku Midoriya." Kurai— no, Izuku says.

"Hitoshi Shinsou."

3rd person POV
After they got down from the roof, Izuku pulled on his mask, going back to his vigilante persona.

"I'll bring you to the police station. If you have an abusive household, you need to tell the officials about it." Kurai pointed out.

After getting Shinsou's consent, the two of them went to the police station. The policeman who answered the door was surprised to see Kurai, but Kurai bolted as soon as Shinsou was safely in the hands of the police.

-end of flashback-

For those who don't like shipping, don't worry: as I repeat, there are no ships in this story so therefore this is not a ShinDeku ship. They'll just be partners in crime *cough cough* I mean friends/brothers >:) Anyways, just to confirm if you're confused. Hitoshi was adopted by Yamada and Aizawa. You may have read this in Chapter 4.
