KATE'S POV

"Keys?" Walter looked up from his computer to acknowledge me. "Can I ask you a question? Like friend to friend?" Mouser and Millie had left to go and grab some lunch so now that Keys and I were alone it felt like the perfect time to ask him and hope he would get what I was hinting at.

I had started working with Keys, Millie and Mouser 18 months ago when they obtained the rights of their game back from Antwan and Soonami. They needed an extra pair of hands and an office. I was able to code as well as them just with the odd hiccup and I had the run of my parents house that they had left me when they passed which meant we were able to set up an office in my previously unused dining room.

"What's up? You know you can talk to me about anything Kate?" Keys pulled his chair away from his computer and rolled over to sit beside me.

"How do you cope?" I took a breath before continuing. "I mean with seeing Millie everyday with Mouser, not so much as with Mouser. How do you cope with seeing the person you love everyday and not being able to show them how much they mean to you?"

Keys sat back in his chair and rested his hands behind his head before speaking. "It's hard, especially when all you want to do is lean forward when you are alone and kiss them. Even worse when they have no idea how it is that you feel about them."

"I really like someone and I know he is single but I don't know how he feels about me. I know he sees me as a friend but I don't know if he is over his ex. What would you do?"

Keys leant forward again and rested his elbows on his knees mirroring how I was sat and so that his face was level with mine. "Anyone would be stupid not to like you in that way. If you don't know whether or not he is over her, just ask him. If you are friends like you say then he will happily tell you. Maybe he likes you too but doesn't know how to tell you." A strand of hair fell in front of my face and keys instinctively reached up and brushed it behind my ear taking my cheek in his hand as he brought his hand back down.

I swallowed hard as Keys' hand stayed against my cheek. "I wish it was that simple, he isn't just a friend Keys. He's my..." I took a deep breath and looked up into Keys' eyes trying to find the words to tell him that he was the one that I was talking about but then sadly we were disturbed by the front door opening.

Keys and I pulled apart quickly and just in time as Millie and Mouser pranced back into the office. I must have had guilt written all over my face though. "What have we just interrupted here then guys? Kate you are blushing redder than Sebastian the crab." Millie looked between Keys and I and I noticed that thankfully I wasn't the only one blushing.

I had been in love with Keys since I first laid eyes on him but I was friends with Millie too. When they had split up a little over a year ago she wasted no time in getting over Keys by getting under Mouser. I couldn't help but lose some respect for her for doing that to Keys, and doing it with his best friend right under his nose as well. As far as I was aware Keys hadn't even been on so much as a date since Millie which is what made me feel so certain that he wasn't over her.

"Nothing, Keys was just helping me with something. Does anyone mind if I open a window? It feels a little bit warm in here with all the systems on." Everyone agreed that they were ok with me opening a window. Keys told us that he was too hot even with the windows open and went outside, claiming it was for some fresh air. Something didn't seem right with him though, he looked sad and disappointed almost. I got back to work thinking that it must be seeing Millie and Mouser together as a happy couple that did it. There was my answer, he obviously wasn't over her.

We all got back to work and the hours were going by slowly. We were getting ready to launch a new update for life itself and it was due to be our biggest one to date so we were all putting in the extra hours as and where we could. "I'm thinking of ordering in a Chinese tonight, anyone else want in?" I asked spinning my chair around like a child.
