"Wait, Todoroki-kun!" Shoto turned to see Midoriya rushing towards him. Once Midoriya caught up, they began their walk to class together.
"I'm sorry about yesterday," Midoriya began, a hint of regret in his eyes. "I never expected you to have feelings for Bakugou, of all people."
"Why? What's wrong with Bakugou?" Todoroki inquired, his gaze steady.
Midoriya sighed, "He's always yelling, always activate his explosions and can be quite aggressive."
"You don't truly know him, Midoriya. Admittedly, even I'm still learning about him. Bakugou has a side that he reveals only to those he deeply cares for. I want to uncover that layer of him. He's always understood me, yet I feel he conceals his vulnerabilities, portraying a facade of maturity. I don't like that. I have much to uncover."
Midoriya smiled warmly, "I'll support you in this."
Shoto shook his head, "I need to handle this on my own. But I could use your help with my training."
"Of course. How about after school?" Midoriya proposed.
"That works, unless Bakugou has other plans," Shoto replied, glancing at his hand. "I need to demonstrate to my father that I've gained better control over my fire."
Entering the classroom, they took their seats. Shoto quickly noticed the empty chairs of Bakugou and Kirishima. As Aizawa entered and scanned the classroom, his gaze halted at the vacant spots.
"Does anyone know the whereabouts of Bakugou and Kirishima?" Aizawa questioned.
Mina piped up, "Kirishima's mother isn't well. She was admitted to the hospital yesterday, so he wanted to be by her side. Bakugou mentioned he'd return to school tomorrow."
Understanding dawned on Todoroki. That explained Kirishima's behavior the previous night. He silently hoped for the best for Kirishima's mother.
With that, the class began.
....
The classroom buzzed with chatter as students settled in for the day. Todoroki's gaze habitually wandered to Bakugou's empty seat, hoping he'd show up. But just like the day before, both Bakugou's and Kirishima's seats remained vacant. Aizawa, noticing their absence, chose not to comment and commenced the class.
Moments later, the door creaked open, revealing Bakugou. He strode in, ignoring Aizawa's stern gaze. Todoroki tried to catch Bakugou's eye, seeking some sort of acknowledgment, but Bakugou's gaze steered clear.
"You're late, Bakugou," Aizawa noted.
Bakugou's silence was the only response. As the lecture resumed, Todoroki couldn't help but feel the tension in the room amplify. During the break, Bakugou was surrounded by Mina, Sero, and Kaminari, engrossed in conversation. Todoroki felt a pang of jealousy seeing Bakugou so engrossed, yet having avoided even a fleeting glance in his direction.
"Why is he acting so distant?" Todoroki mused, recalling their last interaction. "He didn't seem angry about the dare."
Midoriya, noticing Todoroki's unease, decided to approach Bakugou. "Kacchan," he began, but was quickly interrupted by Bakugou's sharp tone.
"What do you want, nerd?"
The entire room went tense at his outburst. Without waiting for a reply, Bakugou casually propped his feet up on the table, eliciting a lecture on proper behavior from Iida.Taken aback by the harshness, Midoriya hesitated but pressed on. "I'm sorry about yesterday. I sh-" But before he could continue, Bakugou's quirk activated, interrupting Midoriya with sparks of explosion.
"What did you say, Deku? Sorry? Do you honestly believe I care about your words? You're nothing but a liar. You should've remained quirkless," Bakugou spat venomously.
As Bakugou menacingly approached Midoriya, Todoroki stepped between them, shielding Midoriya. "You can't treat him like this," he said firmly, their eyes locking. Within that gaze, Todoroki sensed an underlying turmoil in Bakugou.
Breaking the intense eye contact, Bakugou grabbed Todoroki's collar, pulling him close. "Your opinion doesn't matter, half-and-half. Keep your voice down, or you'll be next to taste my quirk." With a forceful shove, Bakugou sent Todoroki stumbling backward and stormed out.
Midoriya rushed to Todoroki's side, concern evident in his eyes. "Are you okay?"
Todoroki, still reeling from the confrontation, could only manage a whisper, "What's going on with Bakugou?"
