In the vast expanse of the open sky, a magnificent hawk soared gracefully, its keen eyes scanning the ground below for any sign of movement. With each beat of its powerful wings, the hawk cut through the air with precision and grace, its feathers glistening under the warm rays of the sun.
Instinctively, it honed in on a small, unsuspecting rabbit, nibbling on fresh blades of grass in a secluded meadow. With a sudden burst of speed, the hawk dove towards its prey, descending rapidly with a focused determination. The rabbit, sensing the imminent danger, froze momentarily, its ears twitching in alarm.
But it was too late. The hawk was upon it, its talons outstretched, ready to seize the opportunity. In a split second, the hawk's razor-sharp talons closed tightly around the rabbit, its claws sinking into the soft fur. The rabbit let out a piercing cry of fear and pain, but it was futile. The hawk's grip was unyielding, its strength overpowering. With its prize secured, the hawk ascended back into the sky, its wings beating strongly against the resistance of the air.
The rabbit wriggled and squirmed in a desperate attempt to escape, but the hawk's grip remained firm. The struggle was futile, and the realization slowly sank in. As the hawk soared higher and higher, the rabbit's movements grew weaker, its energy drained by the relentless grip of its predator.
The meadow below grew smaller and smaller, until it was just a speck in the distance. The hawk's victory was complete. Finally, as if satisfied with its triumph, the hawk settled on a sturdy branch of a tall tree. It released its grip on the now lifeless rabbit, allowing it to fall silently to the ground below. The hawk observed its catch for a moment, its piercing eyes reflecting a sense of satisfaction. In the natural cycle of life, the hawk had fulfilled its role as a predator.
It had hunted, captured, and conquered. The rabbit, once full of life and vitality, had become sustenance for the hawk. And as the hawk spread its wings once more, ready to continue its journey, it carried with it the reminder of the delicate balance of nature, where survival and prey are intertwined.

One of the most disheartening things about college had to be the people. More specifically, the lackluster people. At least the ones you knew.
But the campus library offered a place of solace. A moment of respite from your mundane classes. A moment where you could browse the seemingly endless shelves and sign out a book to stimulate the remaining bit of imagination you had. The bit that you hoped pursuing journalism would fill. So far, the classes seemed to be doing the exact opposite of stimulating your creativity. They had asked for report after report, none of it relevant.
Yet for the next two days, you didn't have any classes.
The library was practically deserted. You were the only one in the aisle. The horror aisle. Perhaps something a little more . . . gross - would pull you out of your little slump.
