Sand sucks.

A cool breeze off of the ocean was welcomed against Aaliyah's skin. She was almost regretting sitting out on the deck of the restaurant she had picked for lunch.

The heat was almost unbearable, Aaliyah's body was not used to the tropical climate of the east coast of Florida.

She was almost tempted to pack herself up and go back to New York. It would be embarrassing if she went home not even a day after telling her friends that she needed to get away off grid for the summer.

The waitress placed her meal in front of her, Aaliyah's stomach grumbled as the wind carried the delicious scent of the meal to her nostrils.

In the distance Aaliyah spotted surfers catching waves, she knew nothing about surfing but assumed because there seemed to be a lot of people out that it meant the swell was good.

Her body felt sticky with a thin layer of sweat trying to dry in the air. The suffocating humidity felt like she was constantly in a sauna.

Aaliyah was more than looking forward to getting acquainted with her newest purchase, mainly because it had air conditioning.

Aaliyah sighed as she finished off her meal. She felt like she could actually think clearly now that her stomach was full.

Her attention was pulled back to the pack of surfers. There seemed to be some sort of altercation between a few of them. Something about dropping in on someone, whatever that meant.

A woman intervened after having swum from the surf, she rammed her surfboard into the sand aggressively before stanching over.

Aaliyah raised an eyebrow as the scene unfolded.

The surfer matched the man in height who seemingly was the one in the wrong. The pair were exchanging stern words but it seemed this woman wasn't backing down. She had an intimidating glare paired with a strong clenched jaw.

Her unwillingness to back down paid off. The heated man shook his head as he submitted, walking away and dramatically scooping up his board.

Aaliyah finished sipping on her drink as she watched the woman wrap her arm around the smaller woman with a smile.

Maybe spending time outside even if it was humid and sticky wouldn't be as bad as she thought.

The surfer was definitely attractive. Tall, broad shoulders, long muscular arms and legs. Aaliyah gulped, she knew surfers could be hot but this woman was something else entirely.

The waitress drew her attention as she collected Aaliyah's dirty dishes.

Aaliyah gathered her belongings, her next destination was her beach house.

Her beach house was only a few minutes drive from where she was at the restaurant and main beach.

Aaliyah knew she would be walking everywhere, the main strip of the town had only a few shops and all within easy walking distance.

She hadn't been in the house yet, she purchased it via a video call with the real estate agent and after the building inspection came back okay she paid her deposit.

Aaliyah unlocked the front front door, opening into her home for the summer. It was cosy in nature, one of the little original houses that made up the town.

Her interior designer had created a perfect combination of minimal cosiness. She had been looking forward to reading books out of her daybed and cooking in her kitchen while watching waves crash.

She only had clothes to unpack which made her life easy. Aaliyah rolled her two suitcases into her bedroom, the dresser and small wardrobe cupboard would fit everything comfortably.
