"Check through the next footage."
Ivan's words were as cold as the tundra. After everything was over, he decided to look into this matter himself and not rely on his team much. He was always busy for the past few days, trying desperately to get his hand on a clue which had been buried long under the cries of the victims.
His eyes scanned the CCTV which he had retrieved from the spot and he was determined to check every hook and nook of the videos.
"Next one."
Suddenly his eyes zeroed on a footage where he could see a woman sitting on a bench and a man creeping its way upto her as if his only motive was to kill her. The man sat beside her keeping a distance. Ivan could see that the woman was pregnant.
His eyes focused on the man that came later on the video with ice cream in his hand.
"Alexander." He muttered quietly.
And then the bombing occured. Specks of fire flew towards the camera and broke the screen. But something caught Ivan's eyes.
"Rewind! Rewind the footage!"
The man sitting in front of the computer started going back to the previous captures and stopped before the bomb blast.
Ivan's eyes travelled through the screen and then the thing appeared again.
"Stop! Stop! Stop!"
The man paused the video.
It was a handkerchief or a small flag of white colour and a small opened book with red cover and a black circle surrounding the book.
Ivan continued to stare at the screen, his long and slender fingers tapping the mahogany table under his fingers. His other hand scratched his chin and he supported his face on his palm.
"Sir? Did you see anything in this footage?"
"Yes." Ivan let out a deep sigh.
"What? And whose flag is this?"
"Red Data Book."
〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️
"Red Data Book?"
Alexander stared at Ivan.
"Yes, its a Mafia gang who were living in this city. The whole city knows it's crimes but they work clean and don't leave a single proof of their deeds."
"Then how did you understand it were them?"
"They left a clue this time."
"What?"
"Their flag."
Alexander sat on the bed trying to digest the situation.
"I don't understand this, why would they plant a bomb in the middle of the city?"
"Probably to instill fear in the people but there is a possibility of another motive."
"What?"
Ivan paced throughout the room trying to think about what could have been their reason to kill. Suddenly, an information crossed his mind.
"Alexander, do you remember against whom Athena fought her last case with?"
"I don't remember much, she told me that she was going to give some punishment to the criminals on her last day."
"Didn't she mention any name before?*
"Umm..no. But her diary might be useful to you. She had a habit of listing her cases in that diary. It's kept in that drawer."
Ivan rushed towards the drawer and opened it. He hurriedly searched through the drawers when his hand landed on a maroon coloured diary.
He opened it, shuffling through the pages as his mind was too busy to settle down. He came to the last page and stopped.
His eyes ran over the page taking in every information. After a few minutes, he closed the diary and looked over to Alexander who was just staring at him, confused.
"I guess the bomb was planted just for your wife."
Alexander could feel himself slipping but he controlled himself.
"Who did this and why would anyone want to kill her? She didn't harm any person intentionally."
"She did good to many people but in that process she became a thorn in the path of many dangerous people. One of them is Red Data Book."
"What are you trying to say?"
"It was all planned by them."
"Who?"
A moment passed in silence.
"I think Red Data Book was behind Athena's murder."
