(Yes I'm proud of that joke and I've never even watched the show anyway)

(also I just realised the plot I planned isn't the best with the age gap bc Kiri was being created right when dr grace died so if y/n knew dr grace she's gonna be QUITE  bit older than Kiri SO WE'RE GONNA DO OUR BEST TO MANAGE THIS MESS OF A STORY-)

(tRiGgEr WaRNinG: angst 😱)

"Your mum?" Y/n asked in surprise.

Kiri nodded. "Dr Grace Augustine. You said you knew her. That I should be proud to be her daughter... or something."

Y/n sighed. She hadn't expected telling such a tragic story today, especially after just waking up. She yawned and stretched, before walking out of her marui pod and sitting down on the edge of a walkway, feet in the ocean. Y/n beckoned for Kiri to follow suit, and she did.

"Well, I used to be of the Omaticaya clan, yes?" Y/n said, gesturing to her darker blue skin. Kiri nodded.

"As it happens... meeting your mother was largely to do with my... exile."

Kiri seemed surprised at this. "You were exiled from the Omaticaya? You didn't choose to leave?"

Y/n shook her head.

Kiri seemed confused. "What in the world did they exile you for?"

Y/n sighed.

"This is quite the... depressing story. Are you sure you want to hear it?

"Yes, I do."

"Alright, well... I knew Dr Grace Augustine when I was five years younger than I am right now. I was walking-

"Hold on, how in the world did you meet her only five years ago? She's been... I mean... you can't talk to her," Kiri protested.

"Just let me finish, please."

Kiri rolled her eyes. "Fine."

"So, I met Dr Augustine in the forests of Pandora. I knew her from teaching the schools and wanted to meet her. I was a little shy, but we became good friends, despite our difference in age. I taught her about our world in a way her observations and studies could never. I was teaching her our ways, in the same way Jake Sully became one of us.

Grace advanced quickly, eager to learn and eager to be part of the community, even if she did not end up becoming one of the People. She had a passion for this world unmatched by any of the Sky People. She was pure of heart and spirit. Grace respected me, despite my young age. I was only of nine years, yet she treated me like I was fully mature. I suppose I was, for my age.

After many months of knowing and befriending her, I wanted to show to her our Tree of Souls. But, as you know, it is a sacred site. The Omaticaya would forbid any of the Sky People from entering, it is our most important place. However, one day, after I taught her the ways of the hunt, Grace requested to see the Vitraya Ramunong.

Of course, I intended to refuse. But... before the words had escaped my mouth, an atokirina' (woodsprite) landed upon Grace's head, and again, on her shoulders... the spirits gathered upon her shoulders and arms. Eywa had spoken.

I was naïve in this moment. I took Grace to the Vitraya Ramunong, with no excuse other than my claims of Eywa favouring her. I am no tsahìk, Kiri. This decision was not mine to make.

Nevertheless, Grace was respectful, and learnt much from observing. She even forgot to take a sample of the tree... She simply saw the world for what it was, saw us for what we were. Grace was so very clever, Kiri."
