Fall break came, and I had my eyes set on a lazy weekend—books and cozy blankets. That plan, however, crumbled when Andie barged into my dorm with a glint in her eyes.

"Dallas, you won't believe what's happening. Halloween party for the lacrosse team! It's going to be epic."

I groaned, "Andie, I'm not in the mood for more plans."

"But I need you, D! It's a plus-one situation. You're the only who can get me there. You should be happy, 'cause you're in the lacrosse team, with all those hot guys. Help a girl out?" she pleaded.

A Halloween party for the lacrosse team? Nash Callahan is gonna be there. I was trying my best to ignore him for the last few weeks. But it's for Andie, and I can't say no to her. I have to face this dude someday. It's just a kiss. Right? Therefore, reluctantly, I agreed. "Fine, but I'm not dressing up as a sexy cat or anything."

Andie, unaware of my thoughts, grinned, "Perfect! You and me, Halloween party, it's a date!"

I rolled my eyes, "Yeah, yeah. Now, what to wear?" The reluctant journey toward the lacrosse team's Halloween party had begun, with me, or Andie, fretting over costumes and the looming possibility of running into Nash.

"Hello there, Poseidon!" Andie's extremely cheerful voice sang across the room. I turned around to be welcomed by her gorgeous self. Her blond hair cascading down her back in loose waves over the  ethereal white of her dress.

Her Aphrodite costume would definitely attract a bunch of lacrosse jocks. I, on the other hand, had dressed up as the sea god, not being able to think of a better costume. Andie had suggested we dress up as Greek gods and goddesses so I went with Poseidon, trying to embrace my teenage Percy Jackson obsession.

My body had found itself in a quite snug sea-blue toga from high school. Which, by the way, I couldn't believe still fit. Lord knows, why I had a toga in high school. But after hours of closet shuffling, it's quite very handy. My hair had been tied up into a neat ponytail under a golden laurel wreath Andie managed to borrow from a cosplaying friend. Andie did want me to have a trident and a small part of me did too, so when we found a plastic trident from a yard sale, I just couldn't resist.

Truth be told, I wasn't really interested in this party, but it's not every day you get drunk dressed up as Poseidon.

The party pulsed with energy as Andie and I entered. She navigated us through the lively crowd, exchanging greetings with familiar faces along the way. The beat of the music reverberated through the walls, and the air was thick with laughter and excitement.

"Andie, help yourself!" she said, pointing towards the kitchen, her voice quickly fading as she vanished into the party, likely in pursuit of some romantic escapade. I found myself standing near a table stocked with bottles of mysterious concoctions and stacks of plastic cups.

Pouring something unfamiliar into my cup, I let out a sigh, letting my trident lean casually against the sink. The liquid inside my cup might as well have been a potion, given its unpronounceable name. Lost in my thoughts, I turned to retrieve my trident when my eyes collided with a pair of striking brown ones.

Nash Callahan. Of course, he had to show up. And to my disbelief, he was dressed as Poseidon too. I scrutinized his attire—sea-blue toga, a shade darker than mine, a laurel wreath, and a trident.

Wait a minute. This had to be a dream. Nash Callahan and I, both as Poseidon? I pinched myself, but the surreal scene remained.

"Hey there, feminine me! Look who's matching," Nash quipped as he strolled over, hands crossed and a smirk etched on his face. I reached down to pick up my trident, which had slipped in apparent shock—probably because it couldn't believe there was another trident so identical to him.
