Ariadne presses the switch, taking the elevator to the basement, where she finds a hotel room completely messed up. As she enters, she steps over some broken wine glass. Mal looks up from the couch, asking about her reason for being there. Ariadne tries to explain but Mal seizes hold of her. Mal picks up a shard of glass, and holds it against Ariadne's neck, before Cobb, who has now reached the basement, could intervene. Cobb begs her to stop and to hold him captive instead. We see Ariadne waking up from the dream. But to her shock, Cobb still hasn't woken up. On the other hand, he is now trapped inside his own memories of Mal.
