Jayla drove, taking a every-so-often glances over to MJ in the passenger seat that kept on silencing her ringing phone. The sigh from her cousin told her exactly who the person was on the other end trying to contact her for the past few days. MJ has been staying strong since staying under her cousin and partners roof. But after a while of having him blocked, the calls and texts were coming in again—something Jayla noticed. She planned to address it, but her priority was to drop off Lani.
Once they arrived, Jayla carried Lani to the front door that was being opened by the excited three-year old with her jet black curls wet. "Lani!"
Lani's head jumped up from Jayla's shoulder at the young voice. "Seona!" she jumped out her hold to race over to her child cousin and embraced her. "You hair is wet."
"Yes it is," Shantey's voice spoke, coming up behind Seona and wrapping the towel around her daughter's hair. "Now get in the house. Hey, Lani baby. Hey, Jayla. Y'all come on in."
Lani rushed in behind Seona and Jayla followed.
"Where the boys for the weekend?" Shantey asked Jayla, as she closed the front door.
"Over Troy's and them place," Jayla said removing the bag off her shoulder and holding it out. "Lani come take your bag upstairs."
Lani grabbed her bag and raced upstairs in one motion.
"The twins asleep?" Jayla asked, following Shantey to the nearby beauty room where she started back tending to Seona's hair.
"No with they Daddy. Just me and the girls this weekend."
"Sounds.. peaceful," Jayla chuckled lightly. "What about Amanda?"
"Tulsa. She's been there a lot with her boyfriend."
"Mama, I want to play with Lani," Seona insisted.
"Go. Only till Jayla leaves and you coming your ass back in this chair."
