I sit on the tailgate of my black 2004 F350 diesel, watching the flames licking the air. I watch my mothers' body turn to ash as she receives the hunters' funeral that she always insisted on.
I wipe the tears from my cheeks as I remember the time we stayed an extra night in the motel 6 last Christmas to watch the Charlie Brown Christmas Special that plays every year. I remember the time she taught me how to shoot. The proud smile on her face as I shot the aluminum can off a cinderblock wall out in the middle of nowhere.
If only I had gotten into the barn sooner, the vamp wouldn't have even touched her. I can't believe she's gone.
'Stop throwing a pity party,' I think to myself. 'Time to go to work.'
I wipe the last of my tears and hop off the tailgate. I turn and shut it and walk around the truck, listening to the dirt and gravel crunch under my boots. I open the driver door, climb into my seat and turn the key in the ignition, a smile twitching at my lips at the sound of the engine roaring back at me. I look in the rear view mirror, watching the flames for a short second.
"Bye, Momma," I say quietly almost to myself, "I'll see you again."
(A/N) This is my first fanfic, I am open to criticism but, hate will not be tolerated. Im excited to share this with you all and I'd love feedback on where you think this story should go.
