A dim light from the nightstand was what woke Sonic up from one of his deep slumbers. He let out a groan and rubbed his eyes, slowly opening them.
"What is it...?"
Once he could see more clearly, his expression changed from drowsiness to confusion. Maybe the slightest bit of shock.
In front of him, he saw a small girl. A little female hedgehog that didn't look older than three. He looked over to Amy, who was still sound asleep to his right. The cobalt turned back to the girl.
She had green eyes like him. Her quills were somewhere in the middle of the shapes both hedgehogs had, and they were colored in blue and pink. He didn't recognize her. He didn't know what she was doing there. Nevertheless, he felt the need to grab her, hold her, and never let go.
"I had a nightmare."
"Oh, so she can talk," he thought. "What a cute voice."
The blue blur smiled at her. He extends his arms out, and halfway through, he notices something else.
A ring on his right hand.
He looks at Amy again. She had a matching one.
His smile widens as he turns to the little girl again. He extends his arms out again, about to slide them under her armpits to lift her up.
...
A loud boom is heard in the distance. Sonic jolts awake, followed by Amy just a second later.
Amy groans. "Oh, that little piece of..." she stands up, grabs her hammer (without bothering to change her clothes), and stomps out.
It takes Sonic a moment to process everything that's going on. When he does, he boosts outside. "Some robot-smashing might distract me from all this," he thinks.
...
He was standing. He doesn't remember waking up, but there he was. Sonic was walking towards the door that would take him from the room he and Amy shared to the living room. The door was slightly open, the lights of the kitchen were turned on, and Amy wasn't in bed. "I wonder what she's doing..."
He opened the door and just couldn't believe his eyes. "Okay, someone's GOT to be pulling my leg at this point."
He saw Amy kneeling down in front of a chair with a first-aid kit next to her. Sitting on the chair, Sonic recognized the same girl from before: purple quills and green emerald eyes. Amy was putting a band-aid over what the blue hedgehog assumed was a scraped knee.
"Pain, pain, go away..."
Amy noticed Sonic watching them. She picks up the little girl to cradle her. Amy turns to Sonic and just smiles, eyes now closed.
...
He woke up again. There's no reason, he just... did. And the hero just laid there with a poker face. "Why? This is nonsense..."
...
A bench in a park. That's where Sonic was this time. He was with the same little girl, except she didn't look so little anymore. She looked like she was six or seven now. She was also wearing a puffy pink dress. The little hoglet had a bunch of stuffed toys in front of her. They were, along with Sonic, her "audience."
