The first day at Oakwood High School was supposed to be my fresh start, a chance to get rid the shy, introverted girl image I'd carried for years. As the new kid in town, I'd hoped for a quiet beginning, blending into the background, unnoticed by anyone. Little did I know that fate had different plans for me.
The bell rang, and I hesitated for a moment at the doorway, taking in all the unfamiliar faces, before selecting an empty desk near the back. With my books neatly arranged, I tried to sink into my chair, ignoring all the conversations
But my wish to remain unnoticed was gone the moment he walked in. Dressed in a leather jacket and sporting a wavy dark brown hair, Nate was the embodiment of every high school bad boy cliché. I'd seen his type in movies and read about them in novels but had never expected to encounter one in real life.
Nate strutted into the classroom clearly uninterested in the attention he was garnering. His piercing eyes scanned the room and landed on me. The intensity of his gaze sent a shiver down my spine.
Without hesitation, he approached my desk and the one beside me, his anger clear. The teacher paused her lecture as he spoke in a voice that sent a wave of hushed whispers through the classroom.
"What the hell are you doing in my seat?"
My heart raced as I stammered, "I-I'm sorry. I didn't know it was taken."
Nate's scowl deepened, and his jaw clenched. He wasn't pleased with my response. He grabbed his bag and muttered, "You should have known," before reluctantly sitting beside me.
I felt my cheeks burn with embarrassment as the other students watched the drama unfold Gossiping. The rest of the class passed in a blur, my thoughts filled with questions about this infuriating bad boy, Nate, who seemed to hate me without even knowing me.
As the bell rang, marking the end of the class, our teacher stepped forward and made an announcement, "Don't forget, your presentations are due next week, and your partners are the person sitting next to you."
I turned to Nate, my heart pounding in my chest, realizing that we were now not just classmates but also partners for an upcoming project why do I have the worse luck I thought.
