What did she do to make it come to this?

The flames cackled almost mockingly as the smoke rose above the trees and polluted the air that used to be filled with the utmost purity. Leaves hung, watching as ash and dust coated the ground beneath the wooden and flaming podium. Hanging loosely from the sky, the moon and stars graced the night with their bright beams almost joyfully, but tonight was anything but joyful, at least..not to her.

The woman's hands and feet tied behind her to a wooden pole, flames dancing all around her body almost gracefully, yet there was nothing beautiful when it came to death. Her locks flowing around her, swaying with the smoke that entered her lungs and refused to leave.

All she did was be born into this cruel world.

With teary eyes, her head turned to the sky, almost begging for something, for someone to save her. She never really believed there was a god, and perhaps that's why she was there, being burnt at the stake, but nonetheless she prayed there was, especially now.

She was innocent.

She promised she was.

And yet...they never cared.

They never believed her because she was a mere woman accused of being a witch by the man she used to call her husband. Of course he never loved her, and you can tell, but he was her husband nonetheless, and if he didn't love her, then she surely loved him, or at least tried to.. In these times he is supposed to protect her as well as his children- the part never they reached- and instead wanted to get rid of her by accusing me of witchcraft.

Witchcraft.

She did no such thing.

She didn't even have the faintest idea what it was until only a few years ago, and yet here they are.

At her death.

Burnt at the stake for a false accusation towards her life.

This world really is cruel.

Yes, she practised sorcery, but never witchcraft. Now that was just absurd.

Her (e/c) eye watched the crowd, expression almost seeming uncaring towards them.

Now she wished she really was a witch. Then, at least she would be sentenced to death for the truth, or maybe she could even run away and disappear from this land...Create a sanctuary of her own, savour the rest of her life in isolation, surrounded by nothing but nature with Kanashii...

Yes, that sounded wonderful.

It was all perfect until he had found her books. Books of another life- no doubt a remnant of the past hundred years in writing the man had never seen before- hers. In this age, she wasn't supposed to know how to read or write, unable to be surrounded by any logic at all. That's where she went wrong..

Oops.

She saw the curses haunting her village and killing innocents. Those gruesome indescribable creatures nobody but her and the village madman could see.

And so, as any exorcist, she allowed Kanashii to attack and kill it without hesitation, but there was a witness- the man she had a one sided love for..

Ofcourse, he didn't see Kanashii, but he saw her talking to herself. He saw her removing her blindfold and revealing what was under there.

And with that, he gave out a grin.
