Renzo goes to Don Abbondio to find out the time of the wedding between him and Lucia, but on the way to Don Abbondio's house he sees Lucia cheating on him with Bettina. Renzo, heartbroken, continues his journey towards Don Abbondio's house to seek comfort in him. He briefly tells what happened to Don Abbondio and Don Abbondio reveals his love for Renzo preceded by vicissitudes. Don Abbondio also reveals that he told Don Rodrigo about his love for Renzo, who helped him by not getting the two (Renzo and Lucia) married. In the end, Renzo understands his love for him and they get married. They have 3 children: Agnese, Perpetua, I bravo.
