Chapter 11: Emmett's Massive Breakdown

[Day 31 in the hospital]

Emmett: My wifffeeee

Nurse: Your Wife is outside Emmett... Okay.. She's coming in...

[Bay enters Emmett's room]

Bay:signs: Good Morning.. Lily and Jane said to tell you hello.

Emmett:signs: My blood pressure has been high today..

Bay:Signs : Your probably just tense from the room change yesterday...

Emmett:signs: Yeah... Bay what's our last name again?? I keep forgetting

Bay: signs: Bledsoe.... Emmett Bledsoe

Emmett:signs: Yeah .. Good thanks

Nurse: Emmett I am going to go get the PT ... It's time for your session.

Emmett: No....

Bay:signs: just go.

Emmett:signs: I don't want that Physical therapist around me.

Bay:signs: She's in here for a few minutes

Emmett:signs: No bay.. I need to rest.

[PT walks in]

PT: signs: Hello Emmett.

Emmett:signs: Yes I know your Natalie's mom so you know how to sign... But please can we have a break today.

PT: signs: Building up your muscle is very important. Transition from the bed to chair today??

Emmett: Signs : No.. can someone listen to me I don't want to this today okay.

PT: signs: Emmett it's very important...

Emmett:signs: I don't care okay I don't care.

[PT walks towards the bed and attempts to get Emmett up. Emmett swats at her arm. And she steps back]

Bay:signs: calm down..

Emmett: cries : leave me alone please nowwwwwwwwwww

PT: signs: I really need to work with you Emmett... Let's not act out okay.

Emmett: yells: I am not a kid..... Shut up

[PT leaves]

Bay:signs: Emmett take a breath

Emmett: cries and signs : I am tired .... Of going through this Bay.. Why did this happen did I deserve this stroke...

Bay: cries: No Emmett you didn't deserve anything that is occurred in the past month.

Emmett:signs: I know I haven't It just feels that way at times. Like because of all I've put you through.

Bay:signs: yes you've broke my heart multiple times but I don't regret being with you Emmett..

Emmett: cries; I wannnnaa goop Hoome seeeeee my babbbbbvies

Bay:signs: Your babies are doing well...Jane is talking up a storm now.

Emmett: signs and cries: I don't wanna do PT okay.

Bay: signs: just relax they aren't making you do anything right now Emmett... Okay

[Alex enters]

Alex:signs: they let me back I told them I was your daughters husband and technically I still am... I am not filing for divorce I can't.... I love Baylee too much

Emmett:signs and cries : I am glad.... How is Baylee..??

Alex:signs: she's doing good.. We are doing good. We are going to therapy. That's helps a lot. We're we struggle is being parents and husband and wife. And Therapy and advice from Bay is helping.

Emmett:signs and cries: I don't feel like getting out of bed this stupid stroke because I didn't take my medication...

Alex:signs: You have taken care of the family for 23 years is time for us to take care of you Emmett.

Emmett:signs: I skipped PT today hopefully she doesn't come back. I'll kick her out again if she does.

Alex: signs: Do you love Bay & Baylee & Ana & Lance & Lilly & Jane & Hayden possibly me too do you love them any amount

Emmett : signs: I love them with all my heart Alex you know that.

Alex: signs: Okay if you love your family you'll do therapy today!!. You will do try your best to do what the physical therapist asks of you.

Emmet: signs: That's not fair Alex... Not Therapy has nothing to do with the fact that I don't or do love my family.

Bay:signs: It has everything to do with it Emmett. If you want to get home and see your children and two grandchildren .. Smiles: you'll do therapy.

Emmett:signs: What's with the smile. Bay..

Alex: signs: Baylee is expecting... Again .. We're having our third child.

Emmett:signs: How far along is she??

Alex: signs: 6 weeks.

Emmett:signs: Don't get me wrong.. But you and Baylee struggle being parents. Why couldn't have this have waited until you finished therapy you know.

Alex:signs: I totally understand you Emmett. That thought crossed my mind. But it just happened and we are excited for the arrival.

Emmett:signs: I don't want my daughter to end up alone raising 3 children on her own. That's what scares me. It's great that we will have another member of the Bledsoe family. It's just I want to protect my daughter.

Bay:signs: You are raising your blood pressure Emmett !! Stop end the argument please. Alex let's stop.

Emmett:signs: my blood pressure is fine... Bay why do you sugarcoat this !! You always have.. I need to protect my daughter.

Alex :signs: Emmett I love Baylee... I won't run this time if things get hard. I promise Emmett I won't . And if I even think about running away I'll talk to you first. Instead of letting my anger get the best of me and doing things I might regret.

Emmett:signs: Did you and Bay get together and rehearse this visit. That sounded way too thought out.

Alex: signs: the idea was thought I had that idea when I got back with Baylee. That I would stay with her for the hard times.

Bay:signs: Emmett please just believe him.

Emmett:signs: I will.. One wrong move Alex and it won't be pretty..I won't hurt you physically but I will talk you down Alex.

Alex:signs : I understand Emmett I promise I do

Bay:signs: good you two made up now can we please do Therapy she's at the door.

Alex: : signs: Bye Emmett..

Emmett:signs: Bye Alex.. Thank you for taking care of Baylee.

Alex:signs: My pleasure Emmett Bledsoe

[Alex exits the room]

PT: Are you ready Mr. Bledsoe?

Emmett:signs: I promise I won't kick you out this time.

PT: signs: that's good to know. Want to stretch your legs a bit get out of the bed.

Emmet:signs: can we try walking if that's okay? I'll do what you want.. Though if you don't think it's the right time i won't do it.

PT: signs: No it's fine .... We will walk in the hall for a bit ill assist you.. Just don't know what changed. Nothing at all to wanting to walk.

Emmett:signs: I want to chase after my new grandchild ..
