The only things I had with me when the officer dropped me off, was my trunk of clothes and Myka; my toy soldier. The date was April 8,1941 when I arrived at the Maui orphanage. Their was a lady standing a the base of the stairs. I guess she was waiting for me.
She was young maybe 18 or 20. Her hair was a dark brown but she didn't look like a local. Her skin was pale and her eyes were bright blue. She was short around 5"1'. I was almost as tall as her.
"Hello Kalani. I'm Ms.Krissie." She said with a sweet and kind smile.
"Hello." I said shyly.
Ms.Krissie took my trunk in one hand and my hand in the other. We walked up the stairs and stood at the door. Some man came and opened the door for us. Ms.Krissie walked me down the hall and as we walked a wave of depression and realization washed over me. I had just realized the reality of my situation.
