A small whit dot has claimed it's existence in the dark void. peace has finally entered my negative, dark, sad soul.

people were scattered, some in groups, some singular. some crying, others happier. they spend the time with one another before its all over.

my pace is quick, my little sister is asleep on my back. a bag is on my waist, her doll is bouncing against my chest. a small rucksack is on her too. I'm carrying a luggage bag on my left side, it has our clothes in. not many, some pajamas, another pair of clothes for our daily necessities. pants and socks are rolled up and stuffed tightly together.

there are bottles of water, several sandwiches, cans of fruit and beans, a few biscuits. i saw our parents die. i was there. i stood and watched as their bodies turned to crisp the wind blowing their ashes to the ground. my fathers watch, my mothers pendant. i quickly picked them up and sprinted to the forest, ignoring the scolding pain against my palm.

I ran home after i knew i was safe, i got my sister  and several bags and items of food. my sister had asked where our parents were. i had to lie. i couldn't tell her the harsh fate of what had happened to our parents. i turned and looked at her innocent face. i told her we were going somewhere, that i would carry her on my back and  we would meet our parents there.

i got the horse from our stables, we traveled  for days on a small wagon with each other as our only company. we got to London, rested there for a while.

we woke at 2am, the martians had caught up to us, i put my sister on my back and collected our bags. i ran outside to find our horse was crushed. i told my sister to go back to sleep so she wouldn't have to see the horrific sight of our horse. his leg was twisted, eyes rolled back, it's blood decorated the floor neatly, his neck turned around fully, its bones popping out.

i had to try hold my scream, i barely managed, turned and ran.

thankfully we were now on a boat, i got the spare change i hid for mergansers. it was a total of £24, i had £50 in total. i placed my bags on the floor of the boat and shifted my sister so she was leaning against my chest.

i looked at her delicate face. no. i couldn't tell her, she was too young. I'm seventeen shes eight. she will be devastated and distraught.

i need to protect her, need to make sure she doesn't turn to embers. that's why were going to France to get away from this may hem. i felt her stir in my lap, she sat up yawning and stretched.

"where are we going now?" she looked at me with dopey eyes.

"were going to France." i said in what i hoped was a reassuring answer.

"will mummy and daddy be there?" i struggled but smiled weakly at her.

"yep!" i pulled her back into me. i looked east, swallowing the lump that had risen in my throat, i i batted my eyelashes to force the tears away.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

somewhere, somehow i had fallen asleep. i woke up to the loud sound of a rapid gun fire, i felt my sister squeeze and hold onto me hard. i sat bolt up and held onto her, i stood and looked over the sea or heads. i saw two martians coming from the forest on my right. another to my left on the bank slowly being submerged by the water.

the others joined in, they were all heading towards us. i held onto my sister, put a hand in my pocket and felt for my fathers watch and my mothers pendant. suddenly a there was a massive splash steam rose from the water.

a martian was down, it was underwater. the other martians sank with tiresome cries and creaking metal joints, more water plumed upwards. the martians splashed at the water in effort to stay afloat. it was useless. they were gone.

people cheered and hugged, someone pulled me into a tight hug and began sobbing. "we live! we live...!" she breaks away from me and goes to others.

my sister begins to cry, i sit down and cradle her. and so we do live.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

my sister grunted and batted me off, she stood, releasing herself from my grasp. when she looked at me rage was deeply embedded in her eyes. and somehow i knew she knew.

"wheres mummy and daddy?" she shouted at me whilst others cheered. we were forty minutes away. "they're dead aren't they?" she said after a long silence, her tone softer. i stared baffled by her statement, my mouth agape. she stumbled backward. "they are aren't they?" she whimpered.

i looked down and let the tears glide down my face. my sister sat and cried next to me. i took fathers watch and gave it to her, she took it and put it on.

we sat there not talking as we let the tears fall off our faces gently, one after the other. i hadn't noticed but when i went to get a drink i saw three bottles missing, my sisters clothes gone and half the food taken. there was two minutes left. i looked at my sisters seat. she was gone, nothing but her doll.

we docked, i ran off the boat pushing people in my path. i ran looking for her. i saw a glimpse of her hair, i began to run for her but tripped and fell, i stood quickly. people swarmed around me.

I'd lost her, i ran around frantically searching for her. i sobbed and yelled, "CHLOE! CHLOE COME BACK!" but it was no use. i scanned my surroundings and ran in the direction i saw her last. "Chloe!"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

it's amazing how quick hope vanishes. it's like a sandcastle being washed away by the sea.

the white dot which ,i hoped would purify my soul, flickered and died out. just like a candle.
