A/N: This is my first time writing a story for others to read so please ignore any grammar mistakes :) I just put the hour version of the song because I intended the mood for it to kind of cover the whole chapter
Enjoy :D
Song: Green to Blue

Present
Alone, watching the waves hit the rocky coast back and forth roughly, unlike the memories of mothers rocking their children, holding them close as if they were glass. I..can still see it. My home I mean, a simple townhouse surrounded by trees swaying gently in the wind. Always swaying. I want to go back there but I don't know how. I don't know how to go back to the times when nothing seemed to matter. Mom always there humming in the kitchen cooking something that we all know wouldn't be in the fridge for longer than a day. We all loved her cooking. My father was busy with work most of the time but when he came home it was bliss, his boisterous laugh would always echo across the house warm and infectious. He always seemed to find humor in whatever mischief Amelia and I would be up to. But in this time, in this place nothing but fading memories remain. The yard, the trees, our home, but I can't go back. Things are different now. The air once vibrant and alive now sits dead and soaked in fog.
I return to look at the waves, if I wanted to I could step off into the dark blue nothingness and sink. The water would take the place of the air in my lungs but I wouldn't panic, I wouldn't at all. I know this sounds foolish but I would embrace the dark blue with my whole being, and I would welcome death with open arms as my mother once did for me.
These days the skies always seem dimly lit, like my father's work lamp that would sit on his desk. The world seems tired now, strained like my father was when he thought we couldn't see. Snapping out of the past I look into the distance. If everything was clearer I would have been able to see the shore of the other islands in the distance.
The grass that I stand upon looks peaceful, coating the rocky ground in patches. If there were more people then I think the echo would be quieter. The salty wind whips through my hair and brings tears to my eyes. "Hey Eve it's almost time to go, we have to leave here before dark" I turn my head to the source of the sound, Gabriel. He was waving at me through the open door of the van we hotwired. I liked our "home" it served its purpose and kept us company.
I turned my body and started walking towards the van that had been parked amongst the grass, remnants of our camp remained but he was packing up. As if telling me not to go, an especially strong gust of wind caused me to stagger backward as my grey vest defended against the cold sea breeze. I wondered what Gabriel would do if I fell, would he keep going?
Brushing those morbid thoughts aside I took one last glance at the seemingly endless sea. I continued walking toward my travel companion. "I wish we could stay here, it's so peaceful" I solemnly stated. I started rolling up the sleeping bags and folding the blankets. He probably didn't hear me which I didn't mind, the silence didn't bother me."You know we can't" he surprised me by saying. I looked up at him, dark eyes surrounded by even darker eyelashes, dark curls framing his pale face, and lips a reddish pink from his habit of chewing on them. He smiled, looking kindly at me "We have to keep looking, we have to keep pushing if we want to be safe" Gabriel continued his once-interrupted task.
