Monet's threat lingered in the back of your mind as you went through the motions of the next several days. Days that were relatively uneventful, save for Lucy's successful surgery that Law was given the lead on. It would be days, perhaps weeks, before anyone could say definitively if she would walk again. But her prognosis was promising.
You were upset to have been passed over, but you understood it in the same breath. It didn't keep you from wanting to give the attending a piece of your mind. But Law asking you to close for him at the end kept you from speaking up after.
It wasn't as though that was the first time you were given the opportunity to close up in an operation, but that time had been different. Beyond the obvious fact that it was Law and not one of the senior surgeons, there was something you couldn't name.
An energy, a feeling.
Whatever it was, you put it aside along with your worries over Monet. If she was all The Family was sending out to torment Kid through you... well, you could handle her.
Her idea to throw a wedge between you and Law had already completely backfired on the woman. The man couldn't have cared less at all about what she thought would be enough to sway his interest.
Not that he hadn't been upset that this information hadn't come from you personally. It might have become a thing. How "cozy" you were supposedly being with the doctor in charge of the clinic when he dropped by to bring you a pick-me-up might have had a little something to do with it.
But you weren't sure when you should have brought it up. Your date? You sure as hell weren't thinking about any other man after that kiss.
So, it might not have been a complete loss for the greenette this round.
"If you sigh one more time, I'll kick your ass out and you can walk."
You whipped around in your seat with a look of disbelief. "This is my truck!"
Kid scoffed. "Barely. After all I put in to get this heap of junk running again for you..."
You weren't sure how dropping by the shop to pick up your truck turned into Kid driving you around in said truck, but there you were. You pursed your lips and looked back out the window. "Where are we going anyway?"
"To go get you a new phone."
Your brows drew together as you counted on your fingers. Yeah, five. You still had five more payments to make on your current phone before you could think about turning around and getting another.
"I've only got to put up with it for five more months." You wiggled the fingers on a hand. "I can still make calls and I've only gotten some glass under my skin a couple times."
Your dear brother didn't even grace that ridiculous statement with a response.
"So what's got you sighing?" His grip tightened on the steering wheel. "Do I got to have a talk with that shitty doctor?"
"You're the reason I've got Donquixote's pet parrot harassing me."
He flinched. "I'll take care of that."
"Why? So they can send someone else, someone worse?" You questioned pointedly. "She squawks a big game, but compared to the guy that went after you, she's harmless."
"You're really sticking to that bird analogy, huh?"
"I'm surprised you know the meaning of the word analogy."
"You wanna walk?!"

On a rare day off, you had been invited over to Law's apartment. You were greeted by an over excited mass of white fur that wiggled himself between his owner and the door to slip out into the hall.
